If we could just get Muslims killing Catholics and Catholics killing Muslims, we might be able to rid the World of two evils at the same time.

I can dream, can't I?

So, just how do we defeat the insurgency?? Or, can we truly defeat the radicals of Islam without killing MANY that aren't radical insurgents??

Collateral damage can be a bitch...

Knowing Muslim fanatics like we do, what is a "good" option, if we pull out, the silly bastards claim victory, and embolden themselves to attack us at home again, if we stay, the silly bastards will keep taking potshots at us from civilian crowded area's like they are wont to do.
a .223 or a 7.62x39 will not be a reliable car stopper, a .50 works well but we are talking crowded civilian area's here, no civilized soldier is going to blast away with a .50 in some crowded market. why are terrorists so successful? because they don't give a f--k about life, anyones life. our troops do. that costs us, but would we have it any other way?

Bob, I'd love to see the venerable 30.06 back in the mix but we have some seriously wussified leaders that would call it over kill, and we have a hell of a lot of troops that just haven't got the ass to haul it or the balls to fire it... :?

M-14 heavy? How about the M-1 Grand? American soldiers carried both weapons in previous wars. The M-1 Grand with its 30.06 round is one kick-ass weapon.

During WWII, Marines in the Pacific didn't always get a one-shot stop with the M-1 Carbine and its smaller more ineffective round, especially if the enemy was "juiced up".

One big difference between this war and previous wars is our troops today are wearing about an additional 80 pounds of equipment and body armor. In WWII and Korea, all they wore was their uniforms and in Vietnam a flak vest. I can understand not wanting to carry a heavier weapon and ammo when you're saddled down with body armor.

I wonder how effective the body armor is against the 7.62 x 39 round with the steel core? Bush-1 banned importation of this round during his presidency but I would imagine they are being used.

We can't just pull up stakes and walk, I know, hell, everyone should know it, but if the Iraqis won't stand for themselves, we MUST set some timeline to finally say OK, sink or swim, and if they sink, too bad, we tried, and that's all we CAN do, it's NOT the duty of the American people to support this rag-tag bunch of sheetheads, we give them an opportunity, if they don't seize it, tough luck and adios Lil' Sheetheads...

I'm still trying to make sense of the whole thing.
I am one who feels we need to bring them all home, but not before we finish the job.
It's a tough one to figure, I know.

Glad you are feeling better Fred. It's a shame you don't look any better... lol.. (sorry, that was mean... You look great in a big white hat!)

I'm still in Gainesville... I'll be here all week waiting on a truck. Gib
