It's too damn bad people can't get as fired up over this issue as....say they are in wanting to give illegal immigrants benefits, education, etc. And let's not forget the free college education for even the most hardened and heartless criminal.

I don't get it..I really don't. Why are the tree hugging liberals not able to embrace the concept of "our Troops deserve nothing but the best of everything, FIRST "

I never even thought that I needed to spell out that this was also meant to include the Guard and Reserves, those guys are doing as much, if not MORE right now than the regulars are... :)

Fred nailed this one. What the VA and DoD are not doing for the troops is more important to me than what they are doing. And yes, I include NG and Reserves in the defination of "troops."

Longstreet, you're absolutely right. In the Air Force, the majority of our Airlift is performed by Guard and Reserve units.

Amen, Fred! Amen!

They should make darn sure a new GI Bill covers those Reservists and Guardsmen doing the same duty as Regular troops. They do the same jobs, take the same risks, bleed the same blood, and suffer the same nightmares as regular troops.

Best to you!

The number and differences of "GI Bills" that have developed throughout the past 30 years is mind boggling. They had programs where the troops paid in to the system but couldn't get their money back if they didn't use it. It was all dependent upon when you came in. Even the military retirement system has different formulas which can be very confusing.

I think if they went back to the GI Bill that I got when I enlisted in 73, it would be simpler and more beneficial for the present day troops. We can't look at it as an expense but as an investment. When these disciplined young men and women finish their college, they're going out in the job sector to make good money and pay big taxes...our return on the investment.
