Bush apologizes to Iraq over Quran shooting

May 20th, 2008 . by TexasFred

BAGHDAD - President Bush has apologized to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and promised prosecution of a U.S. soldier accused of using a copy of the Quran for target practice, Iraq said on Tuesday.

Bush apologized in a telephone call on Monday with Maliki, who told him the incident had humiliated and angered Iraq’s largely Muslim population, the cabinet said in a statement.
“The American president apologized on behalf of the United States … promising to present the soldier to the courts,” it said.

A U.S. Embassy spokeswoman said that in the call Bush expressed his deep concern over the “completely unacceptable conduct of an American soldier.”

A U.S. soldier has been disciplined and sent home after a bullet-riddled copy of the Muslim holy book was found at a shooting range near Baghdad on May 11. Tribal leaders also accused the soldier of writing offensive language inside the book.

Bush apologizes for Quran shooting

As I said in the post just below this one, when I think Bush is right, I will defend him, but if I think he, and/or the decisions made by our government are wrong, I will exercise MY rights and say so…

If Bush wants to kiss al-Maliki’s ass that’s fine with me, it’s his face, and he’s the one that’s losing face with this debacle, but what I want to know is, where’s the outrage for people that desecrate the Holy Bible?? Where is the outrage from our government for these people that desecrate the flag of the United States, the ones that burn it or use it in a display on a college floor?? On the damned floor!!

Walking on the American Flag is NOT Art!

And I agree, it was the “completely unacceptable conduct of an American soldier.” and he shouldn’t have done it, but the Iraqis are once again showing that they have NO concept of democracy or the ‘rights’ that we enjoy being Americans, “We need to try this soldier since he committed a grievous crime. This is what the Iraqi government wants. It is not satisfied with just an apology,” said Iraq’s government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh…

Has anyone ever apologized to us over the desecration of our flag or the Holy Bible??

I don’t recall that happening, I don’t even recall an American official demanding such, we just smile and say ‘well, they’re just exercising their constitutional rights’ and we go on about our business…

OK, right here is where I exercise MY right of free speech, Iraq, and every shithead in that flea infested sand pile can kiss my American ass, all of you Muslim moonbats can die and go to hell, maybe the trooper was wrong for his actions but if an apology from the president of the USA isn’t good enough for you bunch of Islamic assholes, screw off!!

And these are the people that our troops continue to fight and die for…

I wonder how many Bibles have been used as target practice? Are we ever going to hear apologies from the Saudis for their people actually SHREDDING Bibles at the airport?

I’m with you….they can kiss my over sized American ass!

My ass isn’t oversized but there is still plenty of room for turban wearing SOB’s lips near the crack!

As far as the soldier shooting the “holy book of Islam” I would offer my own apology:
I am sorry he only shot it, had he soaked it in pigs blood and pissed on it first then I would be very PROUD of him.

I’m stocking up on Koran’s in case there is a shortage of toilet paper.

Actually the Koran makes excellent target practice. The soldier got 14 shots into a small book. Way to go. I’ve got to remind myself to bring a copy or two to target practice next time I go. I wonder how well will I do.

The soldier has already been disciplined and Bush wants to punish him again? Doesn’t that violate the Constitution of the United States and the Manual for Courts Martial?

Although the soldier did a stupid thing, I think he’s been paid enough enough by putting his life on the line by being in Iraq.

What disgusts me is the President and General Officers groveling to Iraqi tribal leaders…kissing a Koran…disgusting. What some officers won’t do to get promoted.

Bob, I have contended that for a very long time, and I have had MANY of the Bush Bot Brigade call me every kind of un-American asshole you can imagine…

The president is a gutless asshat, he panders to everyone, the Iraqis, the Mexicans, the U.N. and anyone else that he fears offending…

And there are many in the Officer Corps that kiss HIS ass almost as much as a couple of notorious female bloggers that will blast you, say you’re not a Vet, never served, say you hate your nation and do all they can to ruin you simply because you have the balls to call it like it really is concerning the love of their lives, Bush…

Several folks that have read here a lot longer than you are familiar with the people I refer to and can give you chapter and verse on it, but I have tried, for a very long time now, to tell folks that Bush was an absolute screw-up, and if you’ll remember when that group of retired Generals came out against Bush, I knew 2 of those men personally and I supported them in their positions, well, these Bush Bots blasted me as usual and the Generals as well, saying they weren’t BUSH Generals, they had earned their flag under Clinton and that was where their loyal lay…

And you have got to know, that is pure bullshit, the 2 that screamed the loudest were Bush’s biggest fans…

This administration knows NO shame and there are many senior officers, all the way through from say O-6 to O-10 that will, as you said, do anything to hit that next pay grade…

    They are truly despicable..

Commentary about this is completely unwarranted. There is no mention of group size, distance, positions fired from, or many other factors that are involved in marksmanship.
So why the hell are the wimps and chimps doing so?
