If she means the far Christian right wing who are conservative only in their ideas of religion and have used the party to further their ideas of forced morality she is partially right. But then what is a true conservative? I don't particularly like the label conservative...it implies that one resists change and one who resists change will always find oneself behind the curve as others change. In fact our constitution was written to allow for change..re: the 27 amendments that have been approved by the people over the years. In fact at one time I considered myself a liberal..and still do in the classical sense of liberalism..but not in the sense that liberalism is used in the USA today..I am not a socialist and in fact detest the very tenents of socialism which excuses man from having to accept personal responsibility for his actions. But all said I reckon I am conservative in one respect..I want to conserve the constitution as written..not as rewritten by fiat of judges. And I reckon I am a fiscal conservative..because I detest the idea of forced income redistribution which is in fact socialism. Mostly I just want to be left alone to live my life the way I want to live it..without government dictating to me and stealing what I have earned via taxation to redistribute it to those who have not earned it. I reckon that makes me a libertarian..and that is not all that bad of a thing to be. But I do agree with one thing she wrote..the GOP that I used to support is toast...but I don't think it was the conservatives that destroyed it...it was those who put on the mask and claimed to be conservatives and then spent the taxpayers money like a drunk dim-a-crit. Oh, hell, McCain will probably win the White House because of the independent voters and democrats who know better than to support Obama..but the GOP I used to support is not there any more..and the RINOs have lost my support.
