As a moderate, I too, feel that I have no political party. I cannot count the number of times that I have voted for someone who I knew had no chance of winning but I knew it was the only way that I could protest. I don't think that it makes any difference if there is a R or a D in front of most candidates names, once they get in office they will vote for the exclusive few, not for thee or me. I do need to say a good thing about FDR. He was the last president that I remember who actually fought a war to win it. He was the commander in chief over the generals, Patton, McArthur and Esienhower and those three gentlemen and all the millions who fought for them and us are the main reason we don't speak German today. I would like to see at least two new parties and I wish that we had the recall option that Britain has when it's populance no longer has faith in it's elected officials.

"...Did you ever wonder why the Left is not willing to defend this country? Did you ever wonder why they do not feel the US is worth dying for?..."I cannot, for the life of me get my arms around this one. We are still the most blessed nation in the world, offering more opportunities to succeed than anywhere else on the planet, yet so many feel they are entitled to success without effort, and failure is never their fault.Coincidentally, their charismatic candidate has tapped into that very desire, and is making promises that will never happen. There is no such a thing as a 'free lunch'. And when it comes time to pay the price, conservatives will once again be blamed for the 'misfortunes' of the left.

Fred, your folks sound like mine. My mother campaigned for FDR and I even have one of his campaign buttons she gave me. She says the Democrats of today aren't the party of FDR and JFK so she became a Republican in the early 80's. Right now she's not happy with the Republicans, saying it's hard to tell them from Democrats, but she'll most likely vote for McCain.Â

Thanks, Fred! Sounds like our backgrounds are very similar. My folks were dems also. Portraits of FDR on the walls of our dwellings. Me? I'm the black sheep of the family. Always headstrong and stubborn. I simply could not accept what the democrats were offering. All I had to do was bow down and worship at the feet of FDR! No WAY!At 5:15 this morning I was in my local Wal-Mart store talking to a Native American (Indian) woman about the three candidates for president. I did not inquire as to her political party registration, but knowing this lady I would bet money she is a registered democrat. She volunteered there was no way she would vote for Obama. She went on to say that she couldn't vote for ANY of the three candidates. I was NOT surprized!Democrats outnumber Republicans by a good two to one in my county in NC. BUT... and this is the really BIG BUT... they are CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS! Yes, there does exist such an animal. I think Obama will eventually get the democrat nomination and then he will lose the election in November. That would make me very happy! However, that happiness is tempered by the fact that John McCain will probably win. If the dems win as big as I expect they will, in congressional seats, it really won't make any difference who the President is. The Congress will have the votes to override any veto the President MIGHT cast. So, no matter how we slice it... we are in for a rough four years... at the very least! Thanks, again!Longstreet
