White House counsel refuses House panel’s sweeping Solyndra subpoena

Are you ready for that late Friday afternoon NEWS DUMP? It appears that once again the Obama regime thinks Conservative bloggers aren’t watching. Maybe they think we’re all consumed by the Herman Cain story, maybe that’s what we want them to believe. In any case, this is the latest regarding Solyndra and the Obama White House, and it isn’t looking good in MY opinion.

What do you think would happen to you or me if WE refused to respond to a subpoena?

White House counsel refuses House panel’s sweeping Solyndra subpoena

Washington (CNN) — The White House counsel refused Friday to comply with a subpoena issued by a House panel regarding the failed solar energy company Solyndra, claiming the initiative “was driven more by partisan politics than a legitimate effort to conduct a responsible investigation.”

Kathryn Ruemmler expressed her views in a letter to Reps. Fred Upton and Cliff Stearns, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. A day earlier, one of its subcommittees requested internal documents regarding the government’s decision to issue more than half a billion dollars in federal loan guarantees in 2010 to Solyndra, which later filed for bankruptcy.

“The committee’s extremely broad request for documents — now a subpoena — is a significant intrusion on executive branch interests,” Ruemmler wrote.

Upton, the Michigan Republican who heads the broader House committee, issued a statement Friday claiming that the “White House could have avoided the need for subpoena authorizations if they had simply chosen to cooperate.”

“We have been reasonable every step of the way in this investigation, and it is a shame that the Obama administration and House Democrats continue to put up partisan roadblocks to hide the truth from taxpayers,” Upton said after Ruemmler’s announcement.

“Solyndra was a jobs program gone bad, and we must learn the lessons of Solyndra as we work to turn our economy around and put folks back to work. … What is the West Wing trying to hide? We owe it to American taxpayers to find out.”

The White House counsel on Friday did not rule out disclosing additional information related to Solyndra, stating that “we remain willing to work with the committee to accommodate its legitimate oversight interests in a balanced manner.”

A government official said the White House favors a more narrow request. Specifically, it could include documents related to campaign contributions’ influence on the decision to grant or restructure the Solyndra loan guarantee, plus the White House’s involvement in deciding whether to make such a conditional commitment or close the loan guarantee.

Then there is this version from PMSNBC and the AP.

White House rebuffs subpoena on failed solar firm

Associated Press — The White House on Friday strongly rebuffed a subpoena from House Republicans seeking all communications about a failed solar panel manufacturer that received a half-billion dollar federal loan guarantee.

In a letter to two top Republicans on the House energy panel, White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler said the request “was driven more by partisan politics than a legitimate effort to conduct a responsible investigation.”

The White House and the Energy Department have already turned over 85,000 pages of documents on Solyndra Inc. The California-based company filed for bankruptcy and laid off 1,100 workers after receiving $528 million in federal backing.

Ruemmler said those documents show no wrongdoing or political favoritism by the administration. She added that curiosity alone is not a justification to encroach on the Executive Branch’s longstanding confidentiality interests.

House Republicans have used Solyndra to highlight what they see as President Barack Obama’s failure to create clean energy jobs. The company was the first to receive a federal loan guarantee under the 2009 stimulus law, which greatly expanded the program. Obama visited the company last year to praise it publicly.

Documents already obtained by the committee show that the administration knew the firm had problems, yet continued to support it.

Well BZ. It just appears to me that the United States Code commonly known as USC pertains only to WE THE PEOPLE and not to Barack Huussein Obama (White House) This is the same SOB who Promised to have the most transparent administration in History. He then sold this bucket of BOVINE MANURE to anyone who would blindly follow him across this vast ocean of bullshit; almost all followed this manure filled pompous ass to the polls, some of the pompous ass voters saw the light before it was too late. But not near enough to keep BARRY or whatever his name is out of office. Now “We The People” are paying the price; GOD HELP US ALL., and yes Lord help restore the others a clear vision by removing the bullshit from their eyes before the 2012 election. Amen!

The White House on Friday strongly rebuffed a subpoena from House Republicans? I’m sorry, but that reads wrong. It should say “The White House on Friday strongly rebuffed a subpoena from The United States House of Representatives”.

So much for an open and transparent administration.

    From Wikipedia:

Following the refusal of a witness to produce documents or to testify, the Committee is entitled to report a resolution of contempt to its parent chamber. if the resolution of contempt is passed, the chamber has several options to enforce its mandate….

Following a contempt citation, the person cited is arrested by the Sergeant-at-Arms for the House or Senate, brought to the floor of the chamber, held to answer charges by the presiding officer, and then subjected to punishment as the chamber may dictate (usually imprisonment for punishment reasons, imprisonment for coercive effect, or release from the contempt citation).

The media is using Herman Cain as cover for this story, there is no doubt about it. Barack Obama has invoked executive privilege and there won’t be a word about it from the media.

Any bets that the owners of Solyndra are richer now than when they started their business? If I started a business and it failed, I would be a lot poorer due to my failure.
Anyone who starts a business more than likely does it for the monetary reward. The owners of Solyndra knew that if they invested that money into the business that it would be gone before too long since they knew that solar power is not a money making proposition. Might as well fold up the business now while there is still a bunch of taxpayer cash to be had. Just my guess…I could be wrong.

How about a few of obama’s friends? Do you think Solyndra was a big scam to get money out of the gov’t and into the pockets of obama’s cronies? I am willing to bet that the Solyndra owners only got a piece of that half billion and had explicit instructions to dole the money out to certain other individuals. Kinda like a big money laundering scheme. obama’s friends get money and Solyndra takes the hit.

However, someone now wants to follow the money trail and obama and friends can’t let that happen.

sdkar, I believe Solyndra did more than give Obama’s cronies money, I believe a lot of that 500 million found its way back into the coffers of the Democrat Party and Obama reelection campaign. You just don’t “blow” 500 million in that short of time.
