Don Imus once again brings race to airwaves

NEW YORK (AP) - Don Imus has once again injected race into his radio show. During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, Imus asked, “What color is he?”

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones is “African-American,” Imus responded: “There you go. Now we know.”

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton issued a statement calling the exchange disturbing “because it plays into stereotypes.” He says his National Action Network was still deciding how to respond.

Imus was fired from his previous show last year after he made a racially charged comment about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

Representatives for Imus and WABC Radio haven’t returned calls.

And once again the #1 race baiter in the entire USA, Al $harpton, takes offense at a relatively harmless remark.

Maybe a certain site will take issue with Imus, call all of his listeners racists, vile, evil racists, and maybe that certain website will call for Imus to be removed from the radio waves.

And you know, the really funny thing is, Imus likely WILL be removed from the public airwaves again, and driven even closer to that gigantic deal with Sirius or XM, and the millions of dollars that he’ll receive when it happens, all because Imus isn’t as PC as he should be.

I remember about 25 years ago, I was living in El Paso, TX. and Fred Imus was program director for KHEY-FM, Y-96, and Fred did the 6a-9a morning program, he got fired too, he took 3 hours to set up a joke regarding his dog, Boner, he told the life story of Boner, he was named Boner because he liked to eat bones, so, after almost 3 hours of setup, Fred Imus capped it all off by saying, “I always wanted to raise a Boner on the radio”.

That was it, he was done, I mean OUT of El Paso in disgrace, no cuss words were used, no racial slurs were espoused, no real sexual content was uttered, it was innuendo, and a very PC station with some seriously anal retentive listeners.

I was listening to Fred that morning, and was laughing my ass off, the next morning he was gone, *poof*, just like that, he never quite rose to the level of notoriety of his brother Don.

There are people that go around looking for something to be offended by, $harpton is one of them, I can think of a few others that we’ve all come into direct contact with lately, they throw out the accusation of racism at the drop of a hat, no real racism has to have been committed, just a word, maybe 2, but that’s all it takes and the easily offended go ballistic in their tirades and trolling.

Maybe the real world is just too tough for people like that, maybe they have a guilty conscience or a serious inferiority complex and they accuse others of racism as a way to feel strong about themselves, I don’t know all the reasons why and I am not going to sit here and speculate, but I will say this, asshats like $harpton, and a few others, need to put on their big boy britches and grow a thicker skin, this is the real world, we deal in cold HARD facts and once in a while some language and words that offend the overly sensitive PC crowd tend to come out, but there is a viable solution.

Deal with it!

EDIT TO ADD: NEW YORK (AP) — Don Imus, responding to criticism about racial remarks on his radio program, said on the air Tuesday he was trying to “make a sarcastic point” about unfair treatment of blacks in the criminal justice system but had been misunderstood.

Sharptongue being all pissed off ain’t gonna change the fact that what Imus said is true. So now ol Al would have us not speak the truth ’cause someone’s feelers might get hurt ? Boo freakin hoo. Grow a set.

  2. Robert says:

Sharpton is involved??? Well now we’ll say how much the sponsors of Imus’s show think about HONOR Integrity and the belief that freedom of speech works BOTH WAYS.

The N word is still bantered about in song and comedy sketches, as well as the assorted redneck/Cracker or whitey analogs…. all we hear is crickets chirping.

Until such time as PC pricks get off their high horse and start telling it like it is, I will continue the assault on their sensibilities in a way which their feeble minds can’t understand…

Don Imus is a “local Boy” ooops did I say “Boy” I mean, person that grew up around here, oh and by local I wasn’t really referring to his “legal status” I just meant he worked in the same general area I am in. geesh this PCness is tough.

  3. BobF says:

What gets me about when Imus made that remark about those girls, they were saying they were scared for life. Thing is, if that remark had been made by Snoop Dog or some other famous rapper, they would all have been wearing “T” shirts the next day that said “Nappy Headed Ho”.

  4. Pandora49 says:

I don’t listen to any talk radio and I know I don’t like Sharpton but I think that what Imus said was a big nothing. PC has been carried way too far when my garbage man became a sanitation engineer.

“There you go. Now we know.” could be taken several ways, the simplest being. now we’ve got the info.

And I loved the “Boner” on the radio. For a man to get fired for that in 1983!
All I can say I’m glad I don’t live in El Paso. I get in enough trouble here.

  5. Katie says:

Don’t you know Fred, if a black in America farts and a white person says it smells, that’s racism.

Sharpton wouldn’t know true racism if it jumped up and bit him on the ass.

  6. RTaylor says:

Great post - nothing to add - but didn’t want to drop by and not say “hi”.. Would be rather rude :)

  7. Cary says:

    My question is this:

IF it turns out that Jones was arrested for something that a white person would NOT have been arrested for (hey - it could happen!)

and IF it turns out that Imus was correct in his clarifying that he was saying Jones was treated the way he was because of his skin color,

THEN will everyone apologize to Imus and let him retain his spot?

Yeah - didn’t think so. Now, who’s being racist?

  8. TexasFred says:

An apology?? For an incorrect assumption of racism?? Surely you jest.. :?

  9. Cary says:

No, I was serious - and don’t call me Shirley.

  10. GUYK says:

I used to watch and laugh at the inaneness of Imus..most of the time he is crazier than a run over dawg.

But then sometimes he gets to the truth of the matter..and the truth of the matter is that black pro athletes get by with shit that a white athelete goes to jail for..and when anyone speaks out about it they are labeled as racist! Gotdam..the truth does hurt them don’t it?

I don’t fault Imus for what he said but I do fault the asskisser for attempting to apologize…he said it and it was true..what is there to apologize for…? Hurting someones feelings when the truth is told? Fuck’em.

  11. TexasFred says:

Guy, you, me, Basti, Rob and quite a few others ALL feel this way, if ya don’t mean it, don’t say it, if ya say it, by God believe it and have the balls to stand behind it…

This whole little dust up started when I told someone, in a private email, that I thought, in MY opinion, that Michelle Malkin was an ugly, hatchet-faced gook bitch, and I still believe that she is one ugly-assed hatchet-faced gook bitch…

They can like it or not, makes NO difference to me, we ALL have opinions and that one was mine, and still IS mine…

And to further confirm my belief that Malkin IS what I believe her to be:

Now I didn’t call her a ‘nappy headed ho’, she has decent hair…

But the rest speaks for itself… :P

  12. Jenn says:

Pacman is one nappy headed ho.

  13. Basti says:

I’ve never cared for Imus, as he always looked like he’d just come from a bar-room brawl and he’d lost. His ‘racist’ comments are IMO very mild. I should have his show and then the ‘race card players’ would really be crying in their champagne. Oh and its spelled ‘hoe’ no ‘ho’ and you use it to get weeds out of the garden. The ‘high yallers’ can’t even speak normal American English without f-king it up!

  14. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

Imus is so “yesterday,” Sharpton is so “yesterday,” this is nothing more than overeducated and guilty WHITE PEOPLE bending over to PC characters. There is no more courage. This is the nation we have. It shall only decline further under Obama. You think this is an issue NOW? Just wait until next year when every level of our federal government is owned and “managed” by Obama and His Like Thinkers.

  15. Malinda777 says:

    Hey Fred:

I KNOW that you and I aren’t that much different. We’ve lived “other lives” in other parts of the country or world, but you can’t change who we are and the knowledge that on some matters, we’re just flat right. But…occasionally…at least for me…being blonde, half ass cute in my younger years, and a Texan…or even just for being an educated outspoken woman, I’ve been called redneck, blonde, “one of them”, “oh…you’re Southern, you don’t get it”, you’re a girl… etc.

Racist comments one and all, but EVERY TIME I’ve been given a retort like that I just smile and say, “Yeah I am…I thank my Mama & Daddy for raising me that way, and I thank my God and my soldiers for fighting for me to keep me that way”.

Imus is crazy, part of why I love him and part of why I hate him. But he’s him…he has that right. If he was such a piece of shit the normal “joe” would turn the channel, but NO THEY DON’T. It really sucks that a station manager/owner can reap the rewards of his ratings (crazy or not) and then kick him in the balls for saying what he does. If Imus turns in to the nice librarian nobody will listen to him and they’ll fire him again!

BTW…’ya know I love ya…you can say what you want…Malkin hatchet faced gook bitch? I laughed, your opinion is yours to have, but damn… I always kind of liked her and was glad at least one legal foreigner believed in some of what the rest of us do :)

  16. King says:

Well, I have always disliked the marbled mouther moron - Imus. I am shocked that he was put back on the radio. I believe Imus was an idiot for saying what he did and his reason gven for why he said is as sorry as one of his radio shows.

But the Imus issue has overtaken another racist moment - Shaq’s rap about Kobe. This is what I call the left’s push for a ne version of Free Speech - Selective Free Speech!

If you can stand the garbled garbage, beside making fun of Kobe, Shaq makes a remark — “White boys trying to be more Ni**er than me.” Other than the All-American Hero - Sheriff Joe Arpaio (AZ) taking Shaq’s honorary badge - Shaq has gotten a free pass.

No big deal? Bull! It is a perfect example of the dysfunctional democrap double standard and liberal logheads of the left selecting speech that they deem is acceptable.

The selective free speech part is — Shaq refering to a caucasian as a “white boy.”

Anybody remember the outrage when earlier this year Rep. Geoff Davis of KY called Obama a “boy” and was forced to apologize.

    Love your site Fred!

  17. Pandora39 says:

I wanted to add something to my first comment that Fred is right; we are all racist. It is hard wired in us to beware of the different, the stranger, the other. I like to think of myself as being non-racist but then I start thinking about the Musims and I know I’m racist and I know that I am going to stay that way. Their religion offends me in the deepest way and I don’t care if some Muslims are peaceful or not. So I am a racist.

  18. King says:

I believe we are allowed to be reacist against muslims

  19. Cary says:

“mulism” isn’t a race, so to be against it is not a racist thing, but a common-sense thing.

    Just sayin’.

  20. King says:

ya got me on that one Cary! LOL
