AUSTIN — A California disabled veteran who spends six days a week sifting through campaign finance reports has filed complaints against 10 Texas legislators and 15 judges with the Texas Ethics Commission, ranging from failing to identify campaign donors to using campaign money for personal use.
One of the complaints takes aim at state Sen. John Whitmire, D-Houston, for dipping into his massive campaign chest for $165,061 worth of Houston Astros, Texans and Rockets tickets — expenses the veteran says personally benefit the senator.
“Does every voter get a free ticket to the ballgame?” wonders Dave Palmer, who filed the complaint. “It’s a wonder that the Astros don’t ask him to call balls and strikes.”
In his campaign finance report, Whitmire says the expense was necessary for “constituent entertainment.”

Vets ethics crusade targets Texas lawmakers, judges
We have unethical and/or corrupt politicians in Texas?? Really?? Who’d a thunk it?
I hope Dave Palmer not only keeps up this great investigative work, I sincerely hope he can find the right people to turn it over to, on a State level, for further investigation and possible charges if such can be substantiated.
The politicians and judges named in this, the ones that responded, seem to either have a bag full of excuses or, more than likely, they just don’t care.
Many elected officials seem to think they are above the laws they are in place to write, interpret and enforce, and it’s time to send a clear message to them that they are NOT in place to abuse the system that We, The People, expect them to protect and defend.
If a politician, or ANY public official for that matter, is caught in illegal acts, that person should be made a serious example of, they must adhere to a higher standard, but it seems that ever since Bill met Monica, ethics have been completely thrown in the trash can.
I made some enemies a while back when I said that IF the charges against Tom DeLay could be proven in a court of law, Mr. DeLay should suffer the most severe penalties prescribed by law. I also went on to say that IF said charges couldn’t be upheld, Mr. DeLay needed to be left alone and be allowed to live his life in peace.
Some folks overlooked that last line, as is usually the case, far too many people read, hear and see only what they want to, they don’t read the full article or post, they see 2 or 3 key words per sentence and formulate an unflinching opinion from those few words.
Here’s a few words for the crooked public officials that have been accused, tried and convicted, you need to taken to the nearest strong tree and be hung by the neck until dead.
Anyone have a problem fully understanding that last line?

I like Tom Delay but if he is guilty, he needs to pay the price just like any of us would. I’m sick and tired of politicians getting away with breaking the law just because they’re politicians. Like a member of the military, they should be held to a higher standard. Problem is, when you write the laws, you usually find ways to exclude yourself.
This country needs a Dave Palmer in every city, every county, every state, on a federal level.
And yes, ALL politicians purposely exclude themselves from various strictures, on BOTH sides of the aisle. And ALL should pay for wrongdoing.

Yep, drag it all out and toss them all in jail. It’s what we need. Too bad he’s not looking in DC.
