BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) – The maker of the King of Beers has agreed to go to work for the Belgian brewer InBev SA. Anheuser Busch Cos. said early Monday it had agreed to a sweetened $52 billion takeover bid from InBev, creating the world’s largest brewer and heading off what was shaping up as an acrimonious fight for the maker of Budweiser and Bud Light beers. All Budweiser ever did for me was give me a headache, but it is a shame to see the oldest large commercial brewing co. get sold overseas. If we don’t quit shipping our dollars overseas at the rate we are now, It won’t be long until every American citizen will be working for foreign interests, and renting their house from foreign companies, Americans won’t own any part of their country before long.
Hey, what the hell, Dubai recently purchased New York’s Chrysler Building, so why not Budweiser? The only consolation? EVERYONE is a whore, selling EVERYTHING to EVERY country.
Speaking of Chrysler, in 1 year: the Big TWO.
BZ
Is their anything “American” that’s wholly owned and controlled by American’s anymore?
Maybe, just maybe, Americans will finally rise up in protest and quit drinking Budweiser or any beers made by Budweiser.
I wonder who owns Miller Brewing?
As an employee of the FORMER Anheuser-Busch, maybe I can offer something to this discussion.
First BobF, Miller is owned by SAB (South African Brewing company), Coors is owed by Molson, (Canada) They both have merged recently and are being run from London. AB was the last AMERICAN owned company, they were investing in China, and South America and they are the biggest brewers in CHINA at the moment.. THAT’s the reason they were so valuable to INBEV.
INBEV is a combination of Interbrew and AmBev it is run by a MOSTLY Brazilian board of directors. Carlos Brito of INBEV is known for his aggressive cost cutting measures, and I would be willing to bet he will be cutting a LARGE amount of American jobs.
Anheuser-Busch was known for it’s community involvement, it’s desire to keep an image that resonates greatness as it pertains to moral values, responsibility and its willingness to help in America when issues came up.
INBEV is known for bottom line at all cost and this may truly be the straw that broke the camels back
Sell the whole frigging country, its the American way!
The industrial powers and elitists are slowly selling off this country with no regard of the consequences being they have homes all over the world and do not consider any one country “their” home.
Well, I don’t drink Bud, never did, never really liked it, but it’s just sad that one of the last great American icons is going by the way side…
May I suggest Shiner Beers??
Made right here in Texas, by real Texicans…
Shiner Bock…..good stuff. Well, it was back when I drank.
I guess it still is.
Since I don’t drink Bud I really don’t care. I won’t be buying Bud especially if what they are going to do to it is to destroy the company.
I suggest a nationwide boycott of Bud.
Personally I like the local microbrews. They are American owned and operated, taste great (real beer not this watered-down gook that Bud sells), and cost about the same.
To bad the French didn’t buy them…it would put a whole new meaning to the “Budweiser Frogs”.
Hey BobF…a French company really did buy Miller.
oh, man! the Budweiser frogs would have a short career in france, wouldn’t they?
I wonder what the NASCAR drivers will say and do?
Ranando… I think they will continue to make left turns at very high rates of speed. LOL
Well I think INBEV will pretty much just cut a LOT of cost out of the process, I don’t think that will include a lot of HOURLY positions. The union Breweries will be ok for at least the length of the current contracts, the next contract negotiations will be VERY interesting to say the least.
The non-union plants like packaging and entertainment might see some restructuring but INBEV is a smart company, they are not going change what is working, there is a reason AB has a 50% market share in the US and a lot of that reason is the people.
Image is everything in business and one wrong move by inbev throws it all into the pooper in the US. The real reason INBEV wanted AB was because of it’s China facilities and it’s distribution chain, which is the best in the world.
Regardless of what beer folks drink the vast majority of drinkers in our nation drink AB products. NOW AB will have access to INBEV’s Distribution in parts of the world AB has no shelf space.
I don’t like the deal at all, but our dollar is so low against the EURO that deals like this are going to be made a lot before it settles down, back in the 80′s we went through similar times with the Japs.
I’ll keep drinking Mich Ultras. AB employs about 1000 people in my area.
Coors is CANADIAN? That’s all we buy around our house…. Then again, I kinda like the Canadians – they gave us Tim Horton’s maple filled doughnuts.
Are there ANY American beers left? Not the designer beers, but a real man’s beer…
Here’s one that have been around for a long time but are mostly regional, like Coors used to be.
