I sent out an email last night, to all the folks that are on blog rolls, letting them know that I am dropping 4 of the rolls. I have dropped rolls Denny Crane, Boycott Citgo, Don’t Tread on Me and None of the Above, they are history. I am still maintaining these blogrolls: The Texas Connection, The American Conservative, Reject the U.N., Naked Bloggers, Come And Take It and Children of the Confederacy, and as always, I am accepting members, but there is something you ALL need to know concerning blogrolls and their usefulness. The blogrolls are basically nothing more than an updated list now, an easy index, they have very little relevance to blogging today other than a quick reference as to who is on the list and who has recently posted, if an owner has it set that way. A *static* or *random* blogroll is even MORE useless, it doesn’t even tell you who has recently updated, and that renders it nothing more than a list. In their inception, blogrolls helped quite a bit, they gained links and rankings on Technorati and The Truth Laid Bear, but lets face facts, TTLB is hosed, it has been for a long time. I took Bear to task for that and most agreed, but some thought I was just picking on the poor Bear, but the BS thing doesn’t work, facts are facts, and if it can’t or won’t help your blog rankings, why use it? The same is basically true of Technorati, it stays hosed about half the time now, “Oops, it appears that the Technorati Monster has escaped”, yeah, that’s a real funny line huh?? Blogrolls are a thing of the past folks, sorry to break it to you so bluntly, but hey, blunt is what I do. I am going to maintain the *HOT* linked blogrolls at the top of this post, for now anyway, but as my blog continues to grow, and I am devoting more time to it than I am the *social networking* phase of blogging, over time even a couple of those rolls may go by the wayside. It’s just too much work for too little thanks to put it quite simply, and it doesn’t make anyone so much as a dime. I hope you all understand, and I’d like to ask that if any of you are removing the active rolls from your pages, please let me know so I can remove your site, that’s another thing about rolls, maintaining them, keeping them current, is a chore. No one ever lets you know if they stop blogging, you just have to check each and every link for activity, and again, it’s just not worth it to me. If a person isn’t going to maintain their site and keep it updated, why should I have to spend MY time trying to get them some notice? To all of you ON the rolls, thank you for joining and posting the rolls on your sites, it IS appreciated, at least by a few…
EDIT TO ADD: Blogrolls, RIP

Makes sense. Those four are soon to leave my blog, then. Thanks Fred for the heads-up. Wish I had more time to network like you do. Damn job gets in the way!
