If there’s one thing Texans are serious about, it’s pickups.

But a Frisco man says his truck is being targeted simply because his homeowners association doesn’t think it’s classy enough.

Jim Greenwood said he never dreamed his HOA would have a problem with his new Ford F-150 pickup. Then he received the first of three notices threatening him with fines.

“Mr. Greenwood, you’re violating a subdivision rule that prohibits pickup trucks in your driveway,” the notice reads.

Stonebriar HOA rules allow several luxury trucks on driveways, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline and Lincoln Mark LT.

But most Ford, Dodge or Chevy pickups are restricted.

Frisco man says HOA won’t let him park pickup on driveway

OK, this one takes the *dumbest crap of the day* title, hands down!

I wouldn’t live in an HOA community for anyone, and stuff like this is the reason why.

A while back another HOA here in north Texas was giving a homeowner a lot of grief over having an American flag flying, on a flag holiday. I don’t remember if it was Memorial Day or what, but the HOA lost that battle, public opinion, and this being Texas, well, they realized that there was a potential lynching in the works.

Some of the comments in the original story are great, I left them a bit of my wit too.

“Rich people drive pickups too, these clowns are nothing but a bunch of anal retentive, faux intellectual stuck-ups that oughta be in California drinking lattes and watching the whales with the rest of the fruits and nuts…”

And I mean every word of it too!

I don’t know how far this person is willing or able to fight this but there is legal precedent where various homeowners have won legal battles over homeowners associations who overstep their boundaries in terms of restrictions. One specific example was a homeowner in a fairly liberal neighborhood who was threatened after flying the American flag. He successfully fought it in court under free speech rights. Others have won under property rights. This could very well be a case of a homeowners association overstepping their bounds.

I agree with you Fred I’m not living in a community with a HOA. I remember the story about the HOA and the flag dilemma. Things like this make no sense at all, in fact it’s hard to even believe that you’re reading such nonsense. But in America you can find it all. And this is truly one of the dumbest “rules” I’ve heard in a LONG time. Frisco, outside of Dallas is full of elitism thinking anyway…who’d want to live there. Sachse is a better suburb if you just can’t stand to live inside the Dallas city limits.

    What a bunch of idiots!

  4. rgroland says:

God, I hate HOAs. They are the most assinine organizations ever designed!! I also would never live in one. Man, I have 10 acres out here in the boonies and do what I damn well please. If someone told me I could not fly my flags, they would be pickin birdshot outta there hind quarters!!

I can’t believe they allow useless trucks like Ridgeline and Escalades but outlaw real American working trucks. You are right TF, must be an anal retentive, liberal lawyer heading up the association!!!

  5. Ranando says:

A little advice for Mr. Greenwood, read the HOA Rule Book before, let me repeat, before you move in.

  6. TexasFred says:

Read the HOA rule book or not, would make ME no difference, HOAs are a crock of bullshit…

I feel for the guy, and yeah, it IS a ridiculous thing, but he should have read it BEFORE he bought a house in the Commieville TX HOA…

And the really funny part about Frisco, I remember when it was a bump in the road and ALL they had there was a car battery recycle plant, it contaminated the ground, polluted the water and likely, before it’s all over will make the *Love Canal* debacle pale in comparison…

  7. Kate says:

Frisco???? This is Frisco???? Holy crap! I’m with you Fred, I remember it being nothing more than hicksville. Jiminy crickets. Granted, that was MANY years ago, but still…..

HOA are nothing more than nanny states on a smaller scale with very large ramifications.

  8. Katie says:

I wonder how many of those owners of the fancy, smancy pickups actually use them for the uses they are intended for. We used our pick up for hauling hay (when we had horses), furniture, building supplies, etc… Our pickup wasn’t for show, it was for work! Hard work at that!

  9. Tish says:

Oh, ya’ll didn’t know? Frisco has “come up” in terms of being a growing suburb, as well as being a pain in this ass, as they are to this poor guy.

  10. Kate says:

Jim Bowie must be spinnin! Along with Austin, and Houston….and dang! Even John Wayne! 😕

We looked at some nice places before we moved down here to TN, and any of ’em that had a HOA attached to it was IMMEDIATELY scratched off the list. They demand more than they have a right to, and offer very little. And just who are these ominous folks? Likely damn yankees trying to reinvent the north. Pffft!

  11. Basti says:

Wine snobs, beer snobs, whiskey snobs, coffee snobs, Obama snobs, and of course vehicle snobs. Lot of people think that what you drive actually means something besides a means of transportation. I don’t have time for these, ‘my shit don’t stink types’ and treat them accordingly. (Like the puffed up buffoons they are)

  12. Patrick Sperry says:

They went and passed a law here some time back that all new developments had to have an HOA, and they have been nothing but trouble ever since. I hope Wyoming isn’t going to be like that!
