A Death in Our Family…

Blogging will be pretty sporadic for the next few days, we have had a death in the family, my wifes brother Bob had a valve give out in his heart Thursday at 6:30PM, he was riding with the bicycle club he belongs to and they said he wobbled twice and fell over, several of his fellow riders were trained emergency personnel and they immediately started CPR and got 9-1-1 enroute but it was all to no avail.

The M.E. said he was very likely dead before he hit the ground and we are told he never knew what hit him.

His family has asked that if anyone feels compelled to do something in Bob’s memory, please make a donation to the USO, in any name you wish, that was Bob’s favorite organization because of what they do to help the troops and their families, he was especially touched by the local group and the awesome work they do at D/FW with the troops that pass thru as they come and go on R&R from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret, mother-in-law, Lillie; sister, Rebecca and her husband Fred; his daughters, Denise and husband Breck, Pam and husband David; grandchildren, Chelsey and husband Nick, and Zachary; great grandchildren; Madison , Mason; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Tom and Sue K, and Betty E, and Dale and Phyllis P and many other friends and relatives.

Bob graduated from Mesquite High School in 1966 and attended the University of North Texas. He served in the Army Reserves for 2 years on the SWAT team. He served as a Mesquite Police Officer form September 2, 1970 to November 30, 2002.

His hobbies were bicycle riding, photography, guitar, snow skiing, sailing, flying, water skiing, ranching, travel, motorcycle riding and woodworking, but most of all he spent his time loving and taking care of his family.

Bob had many honors; officer of the year; police sergeant; Vice President of the Police Association; four safe driving awards, three pistol expert awards; five perfect attendance awards; one Certificate of Merit; and two lifesaving awards.

And as a side note, there’s humor to be found in everything if you look, we spent all day with my wife’s family and we were taking bets on how hard Bob would be laughing if he read the obituary and the part where it talked about his 4 safe driving awards, simply because they failed to mention that Bob had wrecked several police cars as well as several personal cars over the years and had earned himself the nickname of *CRASH*.

That was my brother in law, and he was a great guy, Rest in Peace buddy, you are already missed.

  14. Fred: my most sincere condolences to you and your family in this time. We’ve been driving many hours each weekend to say our final goodbyes to the mother of my wife Andrea, who has pancreatic cancer. We suspect this upcoming weekend may be our last to see her. Take care, you and your family are in our collective prayers.
