GOP Blocks Gonzales No-Confidence Vote

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republicans blocked a Senate no-confidence vote on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales Monday, rejecting a symbolic Democratic effort to force him from office amid blistering criticism from lawmakers in both parties.

The 53-38 vote to move the resolution to full debate fell seven short of the 60 required. In bringing the matter up, Democrats dared Republicans to vote their true feelings about an attorney general who has alienated even the White House’s strongest defenders by bungling the firings of federal prosecutors and claiming not to recall the details.

Republicans did not defend him, but most voted against moving the resolution ahead.

Monday’s vote was not the end of scrutiny for Gonzales and his management of the Justice Department – more congressional hearings are scheduled and an internal department investigation continues.

OK, no real big deal, we all know that Gonzo is pretty much irrelevant and he’ll be gone soon enough, so, can we move on to more important matters now??

Like maybe rallying the Senate and throwing this IMMIGRATION thing out??

I know how my Senators have already voted so far, and both voted NO, and for that I salute both Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Hutchison, and I have no doubt of their continued votes of no on the amnesty bill…

I hope YOUR Senators have the guts to stand up to the President and his buddies Kennedy and McCain, and if they don’t, by God, vote em OUT of office and get new ones that WILL stand up for America…

  1. Bro, I have to disagree with you on this. It is important. Two fine members of the US Border Patrol are sitting in solitary; One was nearly beaten to death when he had been placed in general prison population. Hard time for be responsible Americans that had sworn an oath to protect and defend You and I.

Both of those men are Hero’s. Gonzo, and that ass tonger of a US Attorney put them in prison…

Yes, there are bigger issues Brother. But not to them, or their families. Or Me for what ever that may be worth.

My Senator’s fall squarely into two distinct groups. One is to be applauded. One is destined to be dunked into a vat of tar, then rolled in feathers…

Anyone care to guess which goes where?

Yeah, well, short of ARMED insurrection, what the hell are ya gonna do?? Let’s hear some suggestion…

Because Pat, I have known you a LONG time but this is one of those “Let’s hear plans, no disagreement” times, and as long as BUSH is POTUS we ain’t gonna do a damn thing…

Not you, not me, not ANY of us, Gonzo is NOT worth a revolution…

I got two Dem losers. I send them letters and tick them off.

I really got hot over O’reilly’s talking point today. I finally calmed down and wrote a piece for my blog.

This no confidence thing is stupid. What do they think we are mock Europe. It only demonstrates their bias toward socializing our great nation.

No I don’t think Gonzo is worth a damn. He works at the pleasure of the president.

Have the senate or house done anything? They have done nothing but waste our time and money. I can’t recall a single binding resolution that actually did any of the business of America.
