RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – District Attorney Mike Nifong will be disbarred for his disastrous prosecution of three Duke University lacrosse players falsely accused of rape, a disciplinary committee decided Saturday. Even the veteran prosecutor said the punishment was appropriate.
“This matter has been a fiasco. There’s no doubt about it,” said committee chairman F. Lane Williamson.
Nifong sat motionless, one hand resting over his mouth, as Williamson recounted how he engaged in dishonest and deceitful conduct. He said Nifong’s early comments about the case – which included a confident proclamation that he wouldn’t allow Durham to become known for “a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl” – were purposefully designed to boost his campaign for district attorney.
“At the time he was facing a primary, and yes, he was politically naive,” Williamson said. “But we can draw no other conclusion that those initial statements he made were to further his political ambitions.”

By God!! There IS some justice in this world after all…
I’m pretty sure it won’t repair all the damage this guy caused to those innocent young lives with his unscrupulous and selfish actions, but it is at least a bit of justice for those young men…
In my opinion there’s a couple of other things that could make this even better, one would be a civil suit brought against Nifong that cost him everything he has, or ever will have, and the other would be to see the lying trash jailed that caused all this…

Yep. And how about a lawsuit against Duke for the harrassment the players received from the school..such as finding them guilty as charged without a trial. About five million per should serve justice
Fully agreed… It won’t make it all go away but it would really take some of the sting out of it…
College and parties go together, drinking and strippers go very well together, I have indulged in a few parties of the same nature in my MUCH younger days, and I was STILL an innocent young man where RAPE charges were concerned…
No one said they were saints, but they WERE innocent, and this bullshit will follow them for the rest of their lives, and THAT is what was meant by ruined… Â

I’m glad to see something done to restore at least a little bit of confidense in our justice system. If Nifong would not have been disbarred how much more erosion of public trust in government would follow……and we have very little left anyhow.
