Dallas Chooses Businessman As Next Mayor

June 16th, 2007 . by TexasFred

DALLAS (AP) – Choosing a wealthy retired businessman over an openly gay city councilman, voters elected Tom Leppert as Dallas mayor Saturday by a wide margin.

Capping a swift rise from political unknown to the top office of the nation’s ninth-largest city, Leppert won the most expensive mayoral race in Dallas history. He received about 58 percent of the vote in the final but still unofficial results of the runoff, beating Ed Oakley by more than 13,000 votes.

“I understand the trust and confidence they’ve placed in me,” said Leppert, 53. “I am eager to fulfill that trust and confidence.”

Oakley fell short of making Dallas the largest city in the country to elect an openly gay mayor.

Maybe Dallas isn’t as ‘enlightened’ as Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs would have us all to believe…

Oakley was a tough sell, Dallas may not be Conservative heaven but it’s not completely lost as a Sodom and Gomorrah, not yet anyway…

Congratulations Mr. Leppert, I wish you well, but you are about to inherit one hell of a mess, and you’re going to need all the business acumen you can muster to get rid of the Miller garbage…

I don’t see how Oakley being a pitcher or a catcher really entered into this race. Leppert won on policy.

Oh, I’m sure some folks voted against Oakley because he’s gay, but I’m willing to bet roughly equal numbers voted for him for the same reason. They cancelled each other out. In the end, it was Leppert’s business acumen and the hope that he can do something about the crime problem that won the day.

Gay shmay. Oakley lost because Leppert is only half as big of a jackass as he is.

    GAY – adjective

    1. having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music.
    2. bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.
    3. given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a gay social season.
    4. licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies.

Well, I’m not politically correct and I will NOT bastardize the word GAY in my description of a HOMOSEXUAL…

I tried to be fairly nice in what I said when I referred to Oakley’s big support areas as enlightened, but I can get more graphic if I need to…

Already, in my opinion, the Left is losing support because they see the Democrats waning in ideas. As have they always. People are beginning to grow tired of the Hard Left ramming philosophies and lifestyles down their collective throats. And, more truthfully, the pendulum always swings back and forth, back and forth.
