Borrowers who went to lenders knowing full well they couldn't afford the "vig", so to speak. The "vigorish." In many cases these people WOULD have gotten a better deal with leg-breakers. Those people, not those who yelled for no "bailout." The people who helped CREATE this nightmare in the first place. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know if a couple making a combined $100,000 a year can afford a, for example, $5,300 monthly mortgage. People were stupid and they were greedy and they believed they DESERVED a new house and that somehow, magically, it would all "work out" simply because they "wanted" it to.
