Taliban Fighters Seize South Afghan Area
June 19th, 2007 . by TexasFredKANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) – Days of fierce fighting with NATO and Afghan forces left Taliban militants in control of one southern Afghan district and battling to take over another Tuesday, officials said.
Taliban fighters seized Miya Nishin district in Kandahar province late Monday, provincial police chief Esmatullah Alizai said. Authorities were planning to retake the remote area.
WTF?? Taliban forces have out fought NATO and Afghan forces?? You have got to be kidding me…
Who could have EVER seen that coming?? I mean, it’s not like the Taliban out fought Russia and damn near bankrupted them in the process or anything, doesn’t our president EVER pay attention to what has happened in this world?? Doesn’t history mean ANYTHING to the man??
This stuff is NOT a game, the Taliban IS an organized force, not some loose insurgency like we are facing in Iraq…
In neighboring Uruzgan province’s Chora district – home to more than 100,000 people – fighting continued between NATO and Afghan forces and militants who attacked police posts in the province’s main town on Saturday. Some officials reported dozens of civilian casualties.
“It has been a contested area for some number of months,” NATO spokesman Maj. John Thomas said. “(The Taliban) are making an effort right now to establish control in that area,” he said, predicting more fighting in coming days.
“There’s reason to believe that the situation on the ground is still unstable,” he said.
Still unstable?? Really?? You think??
I am going to say something here that might make me really unpopular with the 30% of this nation that still thinks George Bush is a GREAT leader of men and a wonderful military planner, BULL SHIT, and you are FULL of it!!
4 years or so ago, we had Afghanistan right where we wanted them and were well on our way to a stunning victory against the people that orchestrated the attacks of 9-11, and we were very close to shutting that particular group of global terrorists down and putting them out of business…
Then Bush gets a gas pain and decides it’s time for him to ‘get some’ in Iraq and vindicate his ‘Daddy’ by taking out Saddam, and the GWoT gave him the perfect premise he needed, and look where that has us now…
After 4 years Iraq, Baghdad is maybe, just maybe 40% secure, Baghdad Not Controlled, and the Taliban is making a strong comeback in Afghanistan, because we didn’t STAY THE COURSE where the course actually was, and today the big headline is 75 Killed by Bombing at Baghdad Mosque, how do you fight that kind of attack Mr. Bush??
And while I’m in the process of pissing people off, to those of you that say Iraq isn’t a ‘civil war’, just what would you call it??
Thank you Mr. Bush, your micromanagement of the U.S. military is going to take us BACK to Afghanistan in force if this thing is to be stopped and that means even more fine young Americans are going to be killed or wounded, billions of American tax dollars will be spent and all because you’re an IDIOT when it comes to running and planning a war and are too damned hardheaded to actually listen to those that DO know how to get the job done…

Sure seems like it was yesterday, on a forum, that both Fred and myself were getting blasted for saying that we needed to finish the job at hand. Not to go off some place else unless we absolutely had to.
Yes, I believe that Saddam needed to be taken out, but we needed to cut off Bin Ladin’s nuts first.
Well Patrick, unless you live in a Little Cat Box, the Bottom Line Up Front is this, there are a few old bats out there that have the ‘hots’ for Bush and would drop to their knees and administer a proficient ’Lewinsky’ right there on the spot, and they seem to think their Fobbits know more about war fighting than the real war fighters…
Sad but true…
WTF…
You can push a button and your TV turns on.
You can push a button and your computer turns on.
You can push a button and make a phone call.
There is also a button that will make the Taliban go away, will somebody please show this dip-shit of a President where that F–King button is.
Wait until we blitz Iran if you think things are FUBAR now. IMO, we should have gone after Iran first and I said so at the time. The wannabees in D.C. have as much ’strategy sense’ as a mayfly.
If we are there to WIN and not to dog-paddle around to placate the UN and various other countries, then we need to have Raytheon and Lockheed-Martin ramp up their creation of bombs. There will be many casualties, a good portion of them civilian. Oh well. That is called collateral damage. The goal is the same: completely flatten the environment. Either do the job, let the soldiers and airmen do their job, or just yank it all. We can no longer afford to station thousands and thousands of American troops, permanently, in countries (as we do in South Korea and Germany).
We must learn from history. The next time we are attacked (and there WILL be a next time, trust me on this), the sponsoring country should be carpet-bombed and BLU-82′d back to the Cretaceous Period. All of it. This would save the proverbial “necessity” of “boots on the ground” — something you need if you plan to “revive” said country. Revive hell; it can NEVER be about revival again. It should plainly be solely about survival: OUR survival and the extinction of an area or a country found responsible. Save the nukes for the worst of worst-case scenarios, UNLESS we are the recipient of a nuke ourselves. THEN the gloves are off.

Amen Brother, you said a mouthful!!
There shouldn’t be a nextime and it would be so easy to keep from happening.
We could always devert their attention somewhere else, Oh let’s say, like Mecca.
