Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for president

WASHINGTON (AP) - Colin Powell, a Republican who was President Bush’s first secretary of state, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president Sunday and criticized the tone of Republican John McCain’s campaign.

Powell said both Obama and Republican John McCain are qualified to be commander in chief. But he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation’s economic problems as well as help improve its standing in the world.

“It isn’t easy for me to disappoint Sen. McCain in the way that I have this morning, and I regret that,” Powell, interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said of his longtime friend, the Arizona senator.

“But I firmly believe that at this point in America’s history, we need a president that will not just continue, even with a new face and with the changes and with some maverick aspects, who will not just continue basically the policies that we have been following in recent years,” Powell said.

“I think we need a transformational figure. I think we need a president who is a generational change and that’s why I’m supporting Barack Obama, not out of any lack of respect or admiration for Sen. John McCain.”

Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for president

I always had a fairly high level of respect for Colin Powell as a General, I never thought him the best, nor did I consider him to be the worst. I maintained that level of respect until he went before the U.N. and prostituted himself for George W. Bush regarding the invasion of Iraq. Now, with his endorsement of Barack HUSSEIN Obama I am convinced that there are ulterior motives at work here.

Since I am roundly accused of being a racist, I may as well go ahead and reinforce that notion. I have to wonder if Powell isn’t a bit put out that McCain didn’t put him in the position of being VP. And another possibility to consider would be that Powell is *sucking up* for a position in the Obama administration.

He said McCain’s choice of Palin raised questions about judgment.

“I don’t believe she’s ready to be president of the United States,” Powell said.

And Powell DOES believe that Barack HUSSEIN Obama IS ready to be POTUS? Give me a break, Obama wasn’t ready to be a U.S. Senator, he was elected because he carried the BLACK vote, the *brotherhood* came out and put that SOB in office. And since he’s been IN the Senate he has done absolutely nothing. Raised questions about judgement?? Gen. Powell, you have just raised a ton of questions about your own judgement and leadership capabilities.

Asked whether Powell’s endorsement would undercut his campaign’s assertion that Obama is not ready to lead, McCain said: “Well, again, we have a very, we have a respectful disagreement, and I think the American people will pay close attention to our message for the future and keeping America secure.”

I have told all of you fine folks, since day 1, John McCain is a loser, he is a wuss, he has NO fight in him, and the above is a testament to that fact. You can’t fight for something as important as the White House and use terms like respectful disagreement. There is only 1 way to win a fight, you must go after your opponent with everything you have. You take him down, you destroy him and you leave NO doubt in anyone’s mind as to WHO the victor is.

John McCain hasn’t done this. Obama hasn’t either, he has let ACORN and others like them do his dirty work for him. Obama won’t fight for America either, he will roll over and give this nation away to the Muslims and anyone else that dares to challenge him.

I am convinced that it really doesn’t matter too much which one of these socialist asshats gets elected, neither one is worth a bucket of piss! And I am also convinced that I am NOT nearly the racist and race baiter some of the *brothers* are…

Well if 95% of one ethnic group is voting for a candidate that is the SAME ethnic group, then you can assume RACE may have something to do with it.

Has there ever been an election where 95% of all white people voted for a White President?

BUT we are racists, Of course it is a racial election.

This just reminds me of what the “Hack” said once about Colin Powell, that being that he was a leader among the “Perfumed Princes.”

Perhaps the Colonel was even smarter than we all thought after all? I think he is endorsing Obama based solely on race…

Does that make me a racist?

Racist - blah, blah, blah. You want a ‘racist’ statement? Ok, here goes. The way I see it is, give all of those ‘African’-Americans (and by that I mean those of whom consider Africa the motherland) a one way ticket to Africa. And give all the socialists and ‘white guilt’ liberals a one way ticket to Europe or Russia (just NOT to Canada). It may seem an awful lot of expense at first, but just think of the savings when the end of the month comes in time to send out the welfare cheques. Not to mention the savings on the riot police etc. No more ‘affirmative action’. People would actually get a job based on their skills. (Novel concept, eh?) Kids might actually get an education because there would be no one to blame but themselves. You get the picture.
    Just a thought….

I’ve never been a follower of Colon Powell. I felt as Sec of State he screwed up by not getting rid of the Clinton appointees but instead he tried to work with them. They were responsible for much of his failure as Sec of State. As a General and Commander, he knew that when you take over from a failing commander, the first thing you do is fire his/her staff.

Also, Powell has NEVER been a Conservative. He’s the dictionary explanation of a RINO. He’s all for appointing liberal judges to the Supreme Court and Federal Courts.

As a key reason, Powell said: “I would have difficult with two more conservative appointments to the Supreme Court, but that’s what we’d be looking at in a McCain administration.

Also, Powell says he’s disappointed in McCain choosing Sarah Palin because he doesn’t believe she’s qualified. But, for some reason, he believes the Freshman senator who spent his time in the senate campaigning for the White House is qualified. How do you explain that logic? That’s like him saying a 1st Lieutenant is qualified to by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

    A couple of observations:

    1. Powell’s endorsement doesn’t mean much. The people declaring themselves “undecided” are full of shit. People who will vote for Obama will vote for Obama and vice versa.

    2. I’m still voting for McCain/Palin — matter of fact, the wife and I already have, as we’ve sent in our absentee ballots.

POWELL FOR OBAMA: IT’S NOT ABOUT RACE

Funny how another black can say this and never be challenged for ‘racism’, but let a white man/woman say the same thing about McCain and the eye rolling starts.

(I never liked Powell dating from the first time I ever saw his ugly mug on TV way back in the 90’s)

    For BobF:

Pull up a pic of him (Powell) in his class “A’s.” You wear your life on your chest. His chest looks like a lot of “ticket punching” to me. Judge for yourself…

Of course this endorsement is about furthering his career. Obama’s victory will be historic for black people. Bush is detested among black people. Powell wants to be on the “right side” of black history. Who wants to go down in history as the black guy who supported Bush and not Obama?

  9. comment number 9 by: jd3

You aren’t really a General when you attain the rank Powell did….you are a politician…..I think Colin owes some back dues to the Democratic Party……and did he do it despite his “friendship” with McCain? Yes….because Obama is black…no doubt about it….plain and simple…..Colin Powell doesn’t intend to be called any names…..

And so it goes, it’s election season.
Better put on your hip-waders because the BS is rising and rising fast.
Newsflash, Richard Pryor just came back from the dead and endorsed OVomit.

  11. comment number 11 by: BobF

Powell is a politician both in and out of the military. I would not question his military career but the General who won Desert Storm is Schwarzkopf. Schwarzkopf was a warrior but Powell was a politician. He received his first star under Jimmy Carter but his other three came under Reagan and Bush.

PrivatePigg is absolutely right. If Obama wins and he endorses McCain, then he would be more of an outsider and an Uncle Tom to those, especially Blacks, who endorsed Obama. Now, with an Obama presidency looking more likely, Powell will be an “insider” and eligible for high political appointments again. He will once again be revered by Blacks and will be high on the list of the Washington Social Circle of which he relishes in.

  12. comment number 12 by: BobF

And, another thing. Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCain’s campaign but he thinks it’s perfectly ok for Obama to mock McCain because of the wounds he received as a POW. Obama’s add about McCain not being able to use a computer mocked a man who was severely beaten and tortured for his country. What kind of military officer would support someone who mocks a man who lost movement of his arms because of torture he received as a POW?

  13. comment number 13 by: Effluent

Race played a large role in Powell’s decision. It sounds silly for him to try to deny the obvious.

I said so in my blog post this morning. I wonder if I’ll get any “you’re a racist” grief about it? It’ll be interesting to see.

Kate, PART of what he says is OK I guess, we ALL have an opinion, but any SOB that calls himself ANYTHING-American is a piece of shit, you’re either AMERICAN or you’re not…

To call that a good piece is, again, a matter of opinion…

  16. comment number 16 by: Kate

Well, he DOES call himself an American: No matter your color… No matter your race, you can relate to me. We’re American.

He’s stating that Bubba Hussein does NOT share a common background with the majority of blacks in this country. That’s what I got out of the piece.

  17. comment number 17 by: TexasFred

And for what it’s worth, it’s ALL about race with Obama, if you don’t support him, you are called a racist, unless you’re black, then you’re *Uncle Tom*…

If you question his experience level, you are called a racist, unless you’re black, then you’re *Uncle Tom*…

If you question his birthplace you are called a racist, unless you’re black, then you’re *Uncle Tom*…

If you question his very liberal and SOCIALISTIC posture you are called a racist, unless you’re black, then you’re *Uncle Tom*…

If you question his desire to have talks with the enemies of this nation, with NO preconditions, you are called a racist, unless you’re black, then you’re *Uncle Tom*…

  18. comment number 18 by: TexasFred

    Yeah, OK Kate…

  19. comment number 19 by: Kate

Well, by george….I’m a bloomin’ racisit! :P Damn proud of the company I’m in too! :)

  20. comment number 20 by: Bluto

I don’t hate all blacks. In fact at the moment the only black man I can’t stand is Obama….well, that and Terrel Owens. Why can’t we just hate someone for their deeds, beliefs and overall philosophy?

  21. comment number 21 by: TexasFred

OK Bluto, I’m gonna explain this one more time, so pay attention…

If you hate em for their deeds, beliefs and overall philosophy it makes too much sense, ya gotta hate em because they don’t look like WE do, THAT is the ONLY way you can be a vile, beer swilling, bog dwelling racist like ALL of my readers are…

Well, that and just say you don’t agree with the Obamanation, that’ll get ya ALL KINDS of racist creds…

You aren’t trying to be DIFFICULT are you?? I can still send you a butt load of stale Twizzlers ya know… Been to Baghdad and back!! :P

  22. comment number 22 by: Bluto

I hate those twizzlers…but not because they’re stale, because of their COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I hate anything with COLOR!!!!

Why can’t they make white twizzlers??? Red-dye #5 be damned!

  23. comment number 23 by: Pat Houseworth

Half assed General while serving, half assed Sec of State, half assed liberal…..What else can you expect? The guy is looking for a job from the brother.

  24. comment number 24 by: TexasFred

Bluto, just WHAT flavor would WHITE Twizzlers be?? Vanilla maybe?? :?

  25. comment number 25 by: Kate

I’m thinkin’ maybe coconut. Might be tasty. :)

  26. comment number 26 by: Bluto

Nah, the White Twizzlers would be the same taste, same flavor, just without the pigment….errrrr food coloring. But vanilla or coconut would be yummy too. Good Idea.
They go great with brazil nuts.

  27. comment number 27 by: TexasFred

    Brazil nuts?? And Twizzlers??

    That’s a unique coupling of flavors…

But ya know, I had to look up the term *Brazil Nuts* when I got older, that’s NOT what we called em when I was a kid… :?
