Long lines form as early voting begins in Florida
MIAMI (AP) – Florida kicked off early voting on Monday, with record crowds heading to the polls and voters waiting hours to cast their ballots. Elections officials said the few reported problems were minor.
Final statewide numbers for ballots cast Monday won’t be available until Tuesday, but counties large and small, traditionally Democrat and traditionally Republican, were reporting record turnout. The early voting sites will remain open two weeks until the weekend before Election Day.
“Lines are a sign of a healthy democracy, and certainly our democracy is healthy today,” said Secretary of State Kurt Browning.
The Sunshine State is again key this election season, with a prize of 27 electoral votes – 10 percent of the 270 needed to clinch the election. The state’s disputed election in 2000 gave the presidency to George W. Bush, and he captured the state in 2004. This year, Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are locked in a close race.

Long lines form as early voting begins in Florida
Today we began early voting here in Texas as well, the deed is done, Wicked Step Mother and I are BOTH now officially racists, neither one of us voted for Barack HUSSEIN Obama.
The voting facility we went to was well staffed and well supplied, there were plenty of election officials and plenty of electronic voting machines, Texas doesn’t DO hanging chads. ALL machines were in use but things were running very smoothly, there was little or no wait and the elections folks said they had been serving a full house all day long, it was 1:30PM our time when we went and all in all, it was simple, quick and easy.
Wicked Step Mother and I voted almost identically, our politics are that close, we both voted a lot of Republican, a couple of Democrats and a couple of Libertarians, we voted for the people we both best felt could serve us, our community, the state of Texas and the USA.
One thing that really tends to piss me off though is the vote in Spanish option that Texas offers.
I suppose that’s an option on ballots on most, if not all states, but I have serious issues with it. IF you live in this nation, IF you are a citizen and IF you’re going to vote in an election, it should be done in English. That is, after all, the language of this nation.
Can you imagine going to Mexico, or, to be fair all around, Quebec for that matter, and can you imagine what their level of willingness would be to accommodate YOU with news, help, instructions or anything else printed in YOUR native language? If you don’t speak French or Spanish, you are up a creek with a busted paddle.
Why do WE, as a nation, have to give in to the laziness of those that refuse to speak, read or write the English language but want to be considered Americans?
And for what it’s worth, we spent the rest of the day shopping for *Fred Toys*, mostly ammo, we were in a police supply that I frequent, I get good prices on things there, anyway, regarding speaking English, 2 Chinese guys came into the store wanting to buy some high powered pistol ammo, at least that was the gist of it that any of us could figure out. They were NOT police officers, Sheriffs Deputies, State Officers/DPS or Federal agents. They had NO official credentials of any kind. They didn’t get ANY ammo either.
My favorite police supply house is racist too!! ![]()

Dang. We’re going down to MS (all of 20 miles away) and hit the ‘supply store’ ourselves.
Actually Fred, in Kebec they would have to give the information in English, as here in Canada, English and French are both our Official languages. Unfortunately, it works both ways. But not too many Kebecers come outside of their border unless they are working a Government job
I’m ahead of you, Fred. My ballot went into the mail last Tuesday. I voted for one PUB, my local Representative, Ted Poe, who has done a pretty good job. John Cornyn can suck eggs, as can Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Did you go for McCain/Palin or did you go for, say, Barr?

I voted my conscience… And that is ALL I feel I need to say…
I read ya.
