Killings Surge in Oakland, and Officials Are Unable to Explain Why

OAKLAND, Calif., June 15 — The names of friends and family members killed in this city over the last two years come easily to Rob Wilson, a rangy, dreadlocked 17-year-old gang member.

A brother was shot to death in a drug deal in 2005. Oakland police officers killed a cousin in a shootout last year. Gang members shot down a friend in March.

“It used to be I would just hear about somebody getting shot, but I wouldn’t know them,” said Mr. Wilson, who is known as Deka and who pulled up a pants leg to show a bullet wound from a shooting last year. “Now, it’s getting closer and closer to me, these deaths.”

The shootings are part of a cresting wave of violence in Oakland, which recorded 148 homicides in 2006, a 57 percent increase over 2005 and the highest number in 11 years. As of last week, 43 people had been killed in 2007, fewer than the 60 killed over the same period last year, but still far short of a turnaround.

Officials are unable to explain why??

Unable?? I doubt that, unwilling is a whole lot more likely if the truth be told, the very 1st line of the story pretty much tells any reasonably well educated observer all they need to know to be able to make a decent evaluation, “a rangy, dreadlocked 17-year-old gang member.”, and yeah, some will say that’s a racist observation on my part but I believe it’s not racist, just realistic…

Gangs rule the inner cities, gangs of every color and ethnicity, but the biggest and most powerful gangs are predominantly Black and Hispanic, and they are killing each other over the slightest of slights, HERE and the mob and/or gang mentality has destroyed many innocent lives, across several generations as well…

I won’t even begin to delve into the whys and wherefores that drive people to become gang members and live that life of crime, criminal psychologists have written volumes in that regard, my only issue in writing this opinion was the title that it was given by the MSM, Killings Surge in Oakland, and Officials Are Unable to Explain Why, and I am quite serious in saying this, if I was a resident of Oakland, CA., and any of my elected officials made that kind of stupid remark, I’d be working very hard to remove the moron from office, he/she is too damned stupid to be a city official…

Any official that can’t understand WHY killings have surged in the inner cities needs to go out and ride a few shifts with their police officers, especially on a night shift, on a Friday or Saturday night, in the neighborhoods, the ghetto, the barrio, whatever the locals call it, ride a few shifts and you WILL walk away with a whole different level of understanding as to WHY, if you don’t crap your pants and go running home to Mama 1st, and maybe they would also walk away with a new level of respect for what out cops are up against…

I would be willing to take bets that there are neighborhoods in Oakland that are much like some of the neighborhoods in New Orleans were in the pre-Katrina days, the cops won’t go in there after dark, and that is quite likely the case in many inner city areas, it would be safer to walk down the streets of Baghdad, and citizens say, “Why don’t the police clean this stuff up?”

Well, they try, and every time they do some liberal judge turns the bad guys loose and castigates the cops for doing their job, or the liberal media and the ACLU jump all over the story and blame the cops for persecuting the poor downtrodden black/brown/yellow man, that’s why some of these situations and conditions exist, it’s a statement to the way this nation has fallen, we’re too politically correct to enforce our laws and protect our own cities and states, we prosecute our law enforcement and let the bad guys go free, and that fact is nothing less than shameful…
