Three cheers for the delivery man! An armed society is a polite society. And a much safer one. Even the drugged out junkies start getting cautious when people start shooting instead of meekly rolling over.

But imho the biggest problem is not the delivery guy's job (I'm betting he gets offers for a lot better paying positions!) The problem is that stories like this bring the ant-gun nuts out in force and they crank up the pressure on legislatures to pass even worse gun laws than the ones on the books! And legislators do so love to please everyone that the tendency is to pass "something" that isn't as restrictive as the bambi lovers want ... but that nibbles away just a little more of our freedoms. There are the occasional huge disasters like Obama. But mostly the problems come in nibbles. Enough nibbles is the same as a huge disaster.

Oh, and Pat ... a .38 is a good compromise :-)

Years ago (when I was lived in a more gun friendly state), I used to carry a small derringer that was sewn into a wallet. The wallet had a hole cut into it for a trigger. The idea was if you handed over your wallet you'd just hand over a few slugs too. Fortunately I never had to use it, and eventually traded it and few other guns for a truck.

Good times.

In Texas you can carry a hunting rifle, but it's kind of awkward, a Hi-Capacity Hi-Power handgun, on the other hand, beats a .22 derringer ALL to hell and back...

That was a desperation piece, a .22 derringer, if the guy was serious he'd have been better armed, he had a CHL, he knew what he could carry, and since he WAS carrying, I am guessing he knew the risk as well...

My guess is, the .22 was easier to hide from the boss...

Fred - Damn that law that doesn't allow the pizza man to sling a high-powered hunting rifle over this shoulder, especially when heading into the "rougher" neighborhoods.

Or maybe the pizza man could have a heavily-armed driver waiting at the car "covering" the pizza man with that same high-powered rifle (and scope!) as he heads up to the door. "You got my back? I'm going in!"

PrivatePigg, it's hard to put em DOWN with a .22 derringer... The guy was seriously under armed...

Problem is now days you just don't hand over the money, you also get shot in the process because they don't want any witnesses. That pizza guy is one of my hero's.

I can see the pizza guy carrying a .22 derringer because it's easy to conceal and his employer probably forbids employees carrying guns. But, the dirtballs also being armed with .22's sends up flags with me as a .22 is also an assassins gun. Loaded with a somewhat potent round like a CCI Stinger, the .22 can take a person out easily is shot in the right place, plus it's quiet compared to larger caliber rounds.

So un-PC to call this a feel good story, but it totally is a feel good story. Some lib will tell you this story would have been better if the pizza man had handed over the money and let the police do their job (then no one gets shot), but I say the story wold be better if the pizza man had put both of these dirtbags out of their misery and saved the state the expense of housing them for the next 25 years!
