The tax exempt status that the Catholic church receives is the problem in regards to separation of church and state. They are a political group as is most every church. Some churches are not given the same treatment by our government in regards to tax exemptions and that is a display of congress favoring certain religions. There could very well come a day when Christians are thankful for our secular government when they are the minority of religions. Might be a long way off but the principle is a very worth one. With that said, I too am a former Catholic and also oppose the legal status of abortion.

There are a lot of CHANGES taking place, I think this priest is making a stand and I say GOOD.

I wish some of the “religious” folk in our state would make a stand. Well other than standing for their own when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak.

Wow, us former Catholics have very consistent views.

I can remember being told all about the importance of children as laid down in scriptures. I can remember the hounding my mother got if us children didn’t go to church regularly. I was even enrolled in a catholic school for my spiritual protection.

BobF – I would love to see the Pope pass some edicts. He wouldn’t even have to be that strong. Simply expunging you form the church rolls is pretty horrifying for a Catholic.

It is high time that people stood up for their beliefs. We are a nation full of hypocrites and fakes. I am impressed by this priests stand on his principals and foundation.

I’m also a former Catholic. Knowing Roman Catholicism, the Pope could easily put a stop to any Catholic voting for a pro abortion politician anywhere in the world. All he would have to do is issue a proclamation that any Catholic supporting any politician who advocates abortion is condemned to Hell. No amount of confession, penance, communion, or indulgences can save that person’s eternal soul. If the pope did that, Kerry, Kennedy, Biden, and the others who are elected by heavily Catholic constituents would never see the halls of congress again.

Of course, anyone who knows the Bible knows different. But, anyone who knows the Bible knows better to support politicians who advocate abortion.
