MARBLE FALLS, Texas – Lashing storms dumped up to 20 inches of rain on parts of central Texas, flooding several towns and stranding dozens of people on rooftops, cars and in trees Wednesday.
No fatalities were immediately reported in the latest in a series of storms blamed for at least 11 deaths in the past week and a half. The downpour and winds were so treacherous early Wednesday that helicopters were forced to abruptly halt efforts to rescue people from rooftops.
The rain was heaviest in the Marble Falls area, about 40 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country, where Mayor Raymond Whitman said there were 32 high-water rescues.
Much of the water had receded by Wednesday afternoon, but city officials expected several more inches of rain over the next 24 hours.
“The ground is fully saturated … it could be severe,†Whitman said. “If people do not pay attention and move to high ground, it is very possible that there will be fatalities.â€

20 inches of rain swamps Texas
I supposed it would be a fair assumption to say our drought is over…
A few weeks ago we had lakes here in the North Texas area that were as much as 25/28 feet below normal lake levels, now, every lake in the area is over full levels, some are way over full levels and all but 3 lakes in our area were having to release water thru their dams and control systems as of this afternoon, the bad part is, as it runs down stream it only has one place to go, into areas that are already inundated with too much water…
Here we are at the end of June, into the actual summer season and it was 82° here today, and when the rain came, in wave after wave, the temp would drop into the low 70′s, and when you figure that by now we’re used to having already had several 100 degree days, we’ve actually made out well in some ways, my electric bill is loving it…
It’s been many years since this part of Texas went into the summer with full lakes, much less over full, there’s no shortage of water here now, White Rock lake is normally 80 feet at White Rock spillway and at midnight last night it was predicted to crest at 91 feet and cause severe flash flooding, I haven’t heard an update on it tonight, and the Trinity River, which runs through Dallas is a roaring rapids right now…
I just hope our neighbors pull through this in good shape, we’re not prone to ANY flooding where I live, we’re in a very high area, close to Lake Ray Hubbard and we have excellent drainage, if we get flooded here, Dallas will be under several feet of water and all I can say is, I hope someone built an Ark!!

The wild thing is that so many cities have now decreased the water restrictions to watering two days a week. I haven’t seen this much water in Texas since 1989.
Sheesh Fred, it hasn’t stopped raining here until today. For you rain deprived people, a drought in southeast Texas is more than eight days without it. Humidity is so high, newspapers wilt. So does steel. It’s so bad, even Chevy Corvettes get body rust.
I’ll start on the Ark….go get two of everything….Where ya gonna find TWO asshats Fred??
At Michelle Malkin’s blog, Rick has a friend that qualifies…
