McCain Shakes Up Campaign, Raises $11.2M

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican John McCain reorganized his campaign Monday, cutting staff in every department as he raised just $11.2 million in the last three months and reported an abysmal $2 million cash on hand for his presidential bid.

“We confronted reality and we dealt with it in the best way that we could so that we could move forward with this campaign focused on winning our primaries in the early states,” said Terry Nelson, McCain’s campaign manager.

Once considered the front-runner for the GOP nomination, McCain trails top Republican rivals in money and polls.

More than 50 staffers, and perhaps as many as 80 to 100, were being let go, and senior aides will be subject to pay cuts as the Arizona senator bows to six months of subpar fundraising, according to officials with knowledge of the details of the shake up. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the campaign would not publicly discuss details of the restructuring.

If McCain’s campaign manager has any political savvy what so ever, he will advise McCain that he’s on the losing end of a pathetic effort and tell him it’s time to pull out…

McCain was, in my estimation, a poor choice for ANY office to begin with, but after he aligned himself with Russ Feingold for the Feingold/McCain bill and then became Teddy Kennedy’s lap dog on the immigration (amnesty) issue, he has blown ANY claim to being a Conservative that he could even have dreamed of, the man is a Dem in disguise, he’s not even a Republican, he IS a Dem, he just doesn’t wear the name…

His popularity among Republicans has dropped since the start of the year. He has become intimately linked to the unpopular Iraq war, and, in recent weeks, he’s drawn criticism from already wary conservatives for his support of Bush’s immigration reform bill. He declined to participate in an early test of organizational strength in the leadoff state of Iowa this summer, and, he’s fighting the perception that he’s yesterday’s candidate.

“he’s fighting the perception that he’s yesterday’s candidate”. That’s funny, no matter who you are, that’s funny…

McCain’s only chance of even being thought of as yesterdays candidate would be for him to have been the only candidate in the race as of yesterday, McCain was yesterdays news long before this little weak attempt at the presidency…

McCain’s U.S. popularity has always been fairly low for quite some time, but now it’s fading fast, McCain is about to learn the lesson that ALL Republicans are rapidly grasping, and that’s the fact that they can’t get elected to ANY office without the strong support of the Conservatives of this nation, and the Conservatives have been screwed over so badly by the likes of McCain and George Bush, well, we’re not going to fall for it again, ALL candidates will be subject to extremely intense scrutiny, personal, professional, moral character, voting records, all of it…

We can’t afford another fake Conservative or a RINO in the White House, the one we have now is killing us…
