Iraqis Urged to Take Up Arms for Defense
July 9th, 2007 . by TexasFredBAGHDAD (AP) - Prominent Shiite and Sunni politicians called on Iraqi civilians to take up arms to defend themselves after a weekend of violence that claimed more than 220 lives, including 60 who died Sunday in a surge of bombings and shootings around Baghdad.
The calls reflect growing frustration with the inability of Iraqi security forces to prevent extremist attacks.
But wait, I thought the bottom line was that things we’re going quite well in Iraq and that the Iraqi people were in charge and were free and doing their thing and all that?? Surely we’re not getting all these excessively high numbers of dead simply because the MSM hates Bush?? There’s got to be at least some factual writing here… Right??
Police also reported they found the bodies of 29 men Sunday scattered across Baghdad - presumed victims of sectarian death squads. Four other people were killed Sunday in separate shootings in Baghdad, police said on condition of anonymity because they were not supposed to release the information.
Sectarian violence?? Isn’t that just a nice way of saying Religious Civil War??
In a joint statement, U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and U.S. military commander Gen. David Petraeus said the attack against the Turkoman Shiites was “another sad example of the nature of the enemy and their use of indiscriminate violence to kill innocent citizens.”
I read that last paragraph twice, just to be sure, and I saw nothing that was even remotely related saying HOW these heinous attacks are going to be stopped either, I thought the surge was going to do it, that’s what the Bush Bots said, the surge was a brilliant move and was going to make a hero of George W. Bush…
“People have a right to expect from the government and security agencies protection for their lives, land, honor and property,” al-Hashemi said in a statement. “But in the case of (their) inability, the people have no choice but to take up their own defense.”
He said the government should provide communities with money, weapons and training and “regulate their use by rules of behavior.”
OK, that’s it, Iraq is a disaster, and the Dems MUST be in control over there, the government SUPPLIES it, the government PAYS for it, the government TRAINS everyone and then the government REGULATES it too??
That’s a Dem move if ever there was one…
I’m really looking forward to the report that Petraeus is going to present in September, no really, I am, I love fiction novels…

Supposedly if the Dems were in control in Iraq, our troops wouldn’t even be there, a proposition which now is looking like a very good idea.
Bush is harping away that the Dems are the ones who are trashing the treasury, not him and Halliburton, he says the Dems need transparency in their activities while he blocks and stymies any attempt to see White House records, deletes emails enmasse, refuses subpoenas. Dick Cheney has declared his office to no longer be a part of the Executive Branch to facilitate this stonewalling.
That’s a civil war in Iraq and it has been for a good long while now. That pile of crap government Bush shoved in there as an imitation of Democracy is too busy infighting for personal position to accomplish anything… which reminds me too strongly of our own government.
Bush has a year and a half yet to keep making everything worse, and he will, and our Congress won’t do a goddam thing about it. Cheney and Bush should both be impeached instanter but good luck on that with our chickenshit Congress.
