‘We are safe,’ Homeland Security chief says

With no plans to raise terror alert level, Chertoff encourages vigilance

WASHINGTON – The United States remains safe after the attack at a Scottish airport and two foiled car bombs in London, and no raising of the terror alert status is planned, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Monday.

“We are safe, but we are safe because we continue to pay attention and we continue to add security measures,” Chertoff said as the Fourth of July holiday approaches.

The homeland security chief noted the incidents over the past several days in Great Britain sent a message that would-be terrorists have a wide variety of ways to attack.

“If you look back at all the plots, you’ve seen a wide variety of techniques,” he said on CBS’s “The Early Show.” But Chertoff said authorities in the United States must prepare for a wide variety of threats, even though the suicide attacks often are the most spectacular.

Officials Worry of Summer Terror Attack

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. counterterror officials are warning of an increased risk of an attack this summer, given al-Qaida’s apparent interest in summertime strikes and increased al-Qaida training in the Afghan-Pakistani border region.

On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the editorial board of The Chicago Tribune that he had a “gut feeling” about a new period of increased risk.

He based his assessment on earlier patterns of terrorists in Europe and intelligence he would not disclose.

“Summertime seems to be appealing to them,” Chertoff said in his discussion with the newspaper about terrorists. “We worry that they are rebuilding their activities.”

Here’s my question, is one of these stories a lie?? Has the security situation changed that much in 8 days?? Is Chertoff’s ‘gut feeling’ a credible warning device??

Or, is it possible that ‘gut feeling’ is an effort to cover the bases just in case there IS some sort of terror attack here??

It just wouldn’t be right to base this on some credible source, hell yeah, the ‘gut feeling’ thing works for me…

This guy I’ve really had issues with since his appointment to the position for many reasons, the most glaring is he just doesn’t present the image of a man that is ready to start dealing with the job at hand. This latest PR snafu shows one hand not knowing what the other one is doing to the world thanks to the US hating MSM broadcasting the shortcomings we have to the world daily or should I say hourly.

Then again the whole da** US government is operating in neutral if not reverse right now and for the foreseeable future, This of coarse is due to Bush’s stupid backing of that treasonous Shamnesty bill and the left sabotaging the war effort combined with poor management being forced onto the troops as in Vietnam.

The whole group from the left aisle to right aisle needs to be redeployed and fired from congress to the president, The whole group.

And for those lefties jumping up and down with glee, don’t think we on the right think that anything from the Left is the answer to that problem for sure, as it isn’t and never will be. Then the country will be lost forever at this juncture.

The left can only safely govern when there is no enemy or work to do or be done, and that time sure isn’t now!

So the social experimentation they wish for America at this time our enemies are wishing for too. So forget about the Hillary Obama pipe dream now, or brush up on your Spanish and Arabic folks.

    Thanks Fred

  2. Only so true Ray. Yet, I have to wonder about this “gut feeling” thing. I have learned to put great faith in my own gut feelings, and they have kept me alive a lot longer than I would have been without them.

But is it really something so metaphysical as that? After all, Congress reported that known terrorist’s had been smuggled into the United States, and that their whereabouts were unknown. Chertoff has to be aware that those people are more than up for giving us a bloody nose, so to speak.

And then there are the political conventions that are going to be held. One right here in Denver; Talk about a target rich environment! I almost hope we get hit! The Socialists and gun haters leadership could theoretically be taken out in a single swoop! Note: I said almost, an awful lot of good people would go down with something like that along with those that want this nation to kneel to themselves. This summer would indeed be the time for a run up to such an act. Pre-planning if you will.

So, getting hit this summer, I think, should be expected. It is logical, and not just a whim.

Chertoff and all of Bush’s appointees say what they’re told to say. We’re “safe right now”, interpreted means “See, the Iraq war keeps them over there and away from us” but “We must be vigilant, I have a gut feeling” interpreted means “Don’t stop being afraid, because fear keeps you pliant and stupid.”

It’s all crap. Political crap. The truth is that our open borders have allowed all the terrorists in who wanted in, and they’re here with us now. Any attacks that happen have zero to do with Iraq.

I said sometime ago that Bush & Co were into ‘fear mongering’, I still say so. (These guys should be wearing pink sports coats with a green ties and selling used cars at Bubba’s Auto Emporium)

I can only hope that should Chertnof gut feeling comes true, that he and his cronies are the first in line for the gallows.they have damn sure done everything except send them a plane ticket and I’m not sure of that.I really wonder if they think the American people are going to take another hit and not come after the people who are suppose to be watching this stuff.
