GAZA CITY, Gaza (AP) – Israeli mortar shells struck outside a U.N. school where hundreds of Palestinians had sought refuge on Tuesday, killing at least 30 people – many of them children whose parents wailed in grief at a hospital filled with dead and wounded.
The Israeli army said its soldiers came under fire from militants hiding in the school and responded. It accused Gaza’s Hamas rulers of “cynically” using civilians as human shields. Residents confirmed the account, saying militants were seen staging attacks from the area.
Despite international criticism over civilian deaths and a diplomatic push to broker a cease-fire, Israeli said it would push on with the offensive against Hamas.
Israeli ground forces edged closer to two major Gaza towns, and a total of 70 Palestinians were killed Tuesday – with just two confirmed as militants, health officials in Gaza said. A top U.N. official called for an investigation into the civilian death toll.

The Israelis will be roundly criticized for this attack I am sure. The Hamas fighter, and Islam in general seem to think that is ALL they have to do to change minds and opinions. Criticize Israel!
Think again ragheads! Some of us KNOW how you people fight. You are cowards and you use woman and children as *human shields* in an effort to save your sorry asses from being killed by soldiers, uniformed, well trained and well disciplined soldiers! And it would appear that this time around, Israel is not only wise to your cowardly ways but is ignoring your ploys and attacking you and yours anyway!
To the Israelis I say this, DO NOT STOP! This is a battle that MUST be seen through to a victorious and indisputable conclusion. A total VICTORY by the Army of Israel.
I venture to say, if Israel doesn’t pursue this action to a proper conclusion, it’s only a matter of time until the Palestinians and Hamas renew their rocket attacks and homicide bombings! That is NOT an acceptable scenario!
I, too, wish to see Israel press her attack despite the cowardly, headline grabbing tactics of their enemy.
To everyone in the UN who doesn’t like American support of Israel I’d like to suggest GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!
I have no use for Brits, French, Germans, Russians, Chinese, Arabs, Turks, Poles, Swedes, Swiss, Italians, Spaniards or any of the other scum-sucking bottom feeders who side with terrorists against those who actually fight against terror. I don’t want them over here eating in my country, running stop lights and ramming into cars then using “diplomatic immunity” to escape justice. I want them to go back to their own hell-hole countries and stay there.
If they love Arabs so much let them put up the UN building in Mecca.
Another case of hiding behind women, children and the UN. Only an imbecile would believe that this place wasn’t filled with terrorists and weaponry that we paid for with our wasted tax dollars and deserved to be leveled sadly.
Hamas is still managing to launch 20 rockets a day into Isreal. I still don’t hear anyone condeming this act.
GO ISREAL!

Human shields have long been the preferred tactic of people of that ilk.
