BAGHDAD (AP) – U.S. forces battled Iraqi police and gunmen Friday, killing six policemen, after an American raid captured a police lieutenant accused of leading an Iranian-backed militia cell, the military said.

The lieutenant was captured before dawn in eastern Baghdad, but the soldiers came under “heavy and accurate fire” from a nearby Iraqi police checkpoint, as well as intense fire from rooftops and a church, the military said in a statement.As the Americans fired back, U.S. warplanes struck in front of the police position, without hitting it directly, “to prevent further escalation” of the battle, it said. There were no casualties among the U.S. troops, but seven gunmen and six of the policemen firing on the Americans were killed, the statement said.

Is this one line hitting anyone else the way it hit me?? I am sitting here LMAO… This little thing about “without hitting it directly” and that NOT happening, that’s called a MISSED opportunity…
This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about in the post just below this one when I said “You can’t fight a war with political correctness”, this falls right back to the point of killing them and destroying everything they have, if they attacked us and we didn’t totally destroy them, we are NOT fighting this battle from a position of MUST WIN, but, that also brings up another point, the striking similarity of Iraq and Vietnam and the nature of the way Iraq is being conducted on OUR part…
The Iraqi military and police are so over-run and infiltrated with Saddam loyalists, Muslim extremists and assorted jihadis, that they are beyond redemption, the internal conflict within the Iraq forces is incomprehensible, we have an ally that is even less reliable than the ARVN army was during the Vietnam conflict…
In Iraq, in the Islamic religion in general, that religion trumps all other loyalty or government belief, a sworn officer in a Muslim nation is not going to take his oath to duty and nation above his orders to protect his particular cell, the Jihad comes 1st, regardless of who’s on the receiving end of things…
The Iraqi army and police don’t do a lot of independent thinking, they are more of a hive mentality, and whatever their particular Imam or terrorist cell leader says do, that’s what they will do, no matter WHAT the job is they have sworn to uphold…
And THAT my friends is the part of this thing that George W. Bush and his administration can’t grasp, this hive mentality is exactly WHY we faced the outcome in Vietnam that we did, and apparently history is no indicator for BushCo., it’s a damned shame too, if the President would actually study history, or listen to those that have, all the answers are right there in front of him, but I guess he believes that political correctness can change history and stop it from repeating itself, in that estimation, he would be wrong…
