US Says al-Qaida Leader Arrested in Iraq
July 18th, 2007 . by TexasFredBAGHDAD (AP) – The U.S. command announced on Wednesday the arrest of an al-Qaida leader it said served as the link between the organization’s command in Iraq and Osama bin Laden’s inner circle, enabling it to wield considerable influence over the Iraqi group.
The announcement was made as the White House steps up efforts to link the war in Iraq to the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, with a growing number of Americans opposing the Iraq conflict. Some independent analysts question the extent of al-Qaida’s role in Iraq.
This is, without a doubt, a very good thing that has happened, anything that we can do to weaken al-Qaida in Iraq IS a marvelous occurrence, but the Bush administration is using it in a PR effort and is STILL trying to cover up their own failures, nothing more, and this line is the deciding factor for me, “The announcement was made as the White House steps up efforts to link the war in Iraq to the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, with a growing number of Americans opposing the Iraq conflict”
I personally have NO doubt that there IS an al-Qaida faction in Iraq right now, I also am fairly certain that there are al-Qaida factions on U.S. soil right now, it would be a ridiculous assumption to think otherwise, but our own Congress and Senate findings speak a different story regarding the involvement of Iraq in the attacks of 9-11, there has been no evidence that al-Qaida in Iraq was any kind of force until after the USA deposed Saddam and the insurgency began, and then Iraq was inundated by al-Qaida members and/or sympathizers…
And yes, Saddam did meet with al-Qaida members, in the natural, every day course of doing business, of that there is no doubt, as did our own government and/or it’s officials, make no mistake, we DO have political and/or business dealings with terrorist organizations all over the world, but what it all boils down to is this, what is our level of involvement, and so far, all evidence appears to uphold the idea that Saddam did have meetings with al-Qaida but didn’t actually do business with them, at least not overtly, the exact same thing that can be said for us…
Bergner told reporters that al-Mashhadani carried messages from bin Laden, and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri, to the Egyptian-born head of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri.
“There is a clear connection between al-Qaida in Iraq and al-Qaida senior leadership outside Iraq,” Bergner said.
And I don’t disagree with Brig. Gen. Bergner on the idea that this guy WAS carrying messages back and forth FOR al-Qaida in Iraq, I don’t doubt it at all, but I am almost certain that this wasn’t taking place prior to 9-11, IF al-Qaida was in Iraq in force before 9-11, it was because they were contemplating an overthrow of Saddam, and I’d find that pretty hard to believe…
Bush is desperate to vindicate himself for his foray into Iraq, and will use any excuse he can find in an attempt to connect al-Qaida, Iraq and 9-11 instead of standing up like a REAL leader and telling the entire world, “I sent the U.S. military into Iraq to depose Saddam, it was MY decision and MY order, I wanted him deposed because he was a BAD man and he threatened my Daddy… And you just aren’t gonna threaten MY Daddy, I’m the decider and I approve this message…”
If Bush would say that, or seriously, use any other remotely believable excuse, I’d cut the man some slack, but I am NOT going to sit idly by while our troops are dying because of a LIE, and the very idea that we are fighting the al-Qaida terrorists in Iraq to protect the American people is nothing but a bald faced lie, we’re fighting terrorists of al-Qaida in Iraq because the Bush administration didn’t see it coming, the insurgency, and it’s ferocity, were totally unprepared for, case in point, the aircraft carrier and Mission Accomplished, at that particular moment in time Bush had no idea how much Mission Unaccomplished was ahead of him and this nation, and since that day the Bush administration has done nothing but wing it…
If we have to fight al-Qaida, or any other terrorist group on U.S. soil it will be because the Bush administration FAILED to secure THIS nation and it’s borders…
