WASHINGTON (AP) – President Bush signed an executive order Friday prohibiting cruel and inhuman treatment, including humiliation or denigration of religious beliefs, in the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects.
The White House declined to say whether the CIA currently has a detention and interrogation program, but said if it did, it must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the executive order. The order targets captured al-Qaida terrorists who have information on attack plans or the whereabouts of the group’s senior leaders.
OK, first Bush micromanages the conflict in Iraq to the point where the American people as a whole are totally fed up with him and his ridiculous excuses, now he’s going to hog-tie the CIA too?? Who’s side is this guy really on??
He won’t set the troops loose like the hounds of hell, he allowed the insurgents (al-Sadr) to attack our Marines, several times, and each time, as our Marines were about to wipe them out, they would flee into a Mosque and continue their fight from there, all the while Bush refused to give the order to take them out or to allow further engagement until the insurgents came out OF that Mosque, so, now, our best hope for information gathering and overall intelligence analysis is going to be muzzled as well??
Hell of a way to fight a War on Terror, or any other war for that matter…
“Last September, the president explained how the CIA’s program had disrupted attacks and saved lives, and that it must continue on a sound legal footing,” White House press secretary Tony Snow said. “The president has insisted on clear legal standards so that CIA officers involved in this essential work are not placed in jeopardy for doing their job – and keeping America safe from attacks.”
And old analogy says: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and it appears that the Bush administration is again fixing that which is NOT broken…
By the Press/Sec’s own words, “Last September, the president explained how the CIA’s program had disrupted attacks and saved lives,” and right there is where he should have shut up or said “Carry on” and let it go, right there, if it’s working and gathering the needed Intel and saving lives, well…
The tactics employed by the CIA may not be ‘left wing tree hugging libber approved’ but the war isn’t either, so here’s something the ‘left wing tree hugging libbers’ AND the President need to think about trying, leave war to the warriors, just lay out the mission, write the check to pay for it and get the hell out of the way, it’ll work a lot better that way…

And in other news:
Bush To Undergo Colonoscopy(AP) President Bush will undergo a routine colonoscopy Saturday and temporarily hand presidential powers over to Vice President Dick Cheney, White House press secretary Tony Snow said.
I heard some pundit mention this and said that Bush was going in for a brain scan, I think it may have been me, I hope they have magnification features available…

Heading in another direction, it has got to be driving the Lefties nuts to realize that for a few hours Dick Cheney will be in charge.
I’d love to see some of the wild speculation they will have for the atrocities Cheney will unleash.
If Cheney plans on having his shotgun nearby those atrocities may come to fruition…
I thought Cheney was President, God am I glad I read this blog.
I am SO disappointed in you guys, I am pointing out the danger faced by our POTUS as he has his BRAIN SCAN in the AM and all you want to talk about is DICK…
Fred: W isn’t actually hamstringing the CIA with this order, basically the courts (SCOTUS mainly) are hamstringing the CIA and W is getting around them.
There are other good articles about what happened out there that go into a little more detail on this. This order was basically to get around waiting on the courts to figure out what the CIA can and can’t do. The guidelines are very broad and AFAIK don’t actually mention any ‘specific’ things that can’t be done. As always the CIA will manage itself, but this (imo) actually helps them, not hurts them.
Maybe so… But as far as this war and Bush go, I don’t trust Bush as far as I can throw him…
This is simply a fucked-up decision. Period.
