WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon says the senior military judge overseeing terror trials at Guantanamo Bay has dropped charges against a suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing.
The military charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active war crimes case at Guantanamo Bay.
The legal move by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, brings all cases into compliance with President Barack Obama’s executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said Crawford dismissed the charges against al-Nashiri without prejudice. That means new charges can be brought again later. He will remain in prison for the time being.
“It was her decision, but it reflects the fact that the president has issued an executive order which mandates that the military commissions be halted, pending the outcome of several reviews of our operations down at Guantanamo,” Morrell said Thursday night.
The ruling also gives the White House time to review the legal cases of all 245 terror suspects held there and decide whether they should be prosecuted in the U.S. or released to other nations.
Obama was expected to meet with families of Cole and 9/11 victims at the White House on Friday afternoon to announce the move.

I just now saw this, and needless to say, I am flabbergasted! I knew that SOB was a useless POS, but I guess I didn’t realize he would sink to such depths! In reality, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. We all knew that garbage in chief doesn’t give a shit about this country.

Mr Obama has done nothing but guarantee that many more Americans will die at the hands of terrorists — perhaps, again, on domestic soil.
Two suggestions:
1. Gitmo moved to Alcatraz. These assholes can’t swim.
2. Gitmo moved to John Murtha’s neighborhood, as he suggested. This, actually, is best.

One of Obama’s biggest and earliest supporters was the Governor of Kansas. Since Obama ordered Gitmo closed, he’s now looking at Fort Leavenworth, KS to house the prisoners. Now, the Governor is upset because she may get them.

If Obama closes Gitmo and frees the terrorists, this is a slap in the face to all the families that have lost loved ones at their hands, to all Americans, and to those fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan for this Country.
No matter what his aides advise him or how any Americans feel, he is just like George W, he is going to do what he wants just to show the American people, “he is in charge.” If we are struck by terrorists, will you hear him say “Oops, I screwed up.”……
I doubt it.

This is an atrocity. To let hostile people inflict injury to our warriors without repercussions is to show just how weak we’ve become. Letting this guy off, he’ll run back to his coherts and start planning something bigger I think.

As defined by the constitution this is Treason and is blatant in it’s disregard for our sworn protectors! Treason id defined as: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” That last phrase is quite imortant. I do feel that since we know that the Little sheet heads that bombed the cole were doing so as an act of war, Therefor they were and still are our enemies. releasing them from criminal charges is giving them aid. Obambi should be brought to trial for this act! but since it seems to be the way of his administration I am sure that all we will get is “Oh I am sorry I didn’t know that was treason, I forgive myself” I will agree with you “What A Crock!!!” This is bull!

As Commander-In Chief, Obama has failed to provided for due process in protecting and requiring a terrorist to answer for his actions in killing American servicemen. It fore shadows, what he will do in the future and our troops have a right to fear that he will stand with them let alone respect them.
One of the mothers of a fallen sailor killed on the USS Cole by this terrorists actions said today she voted for Obama and now knows she made a mistake and her family is very angered and rightly so!
His actions moving us further to socialism, evidences that American who did not vote or who voted for him, have also failed America. While McCain was not a solid conservative, he would have been loyal as a commander-in-chief!
The scariest item is that Obama to prove his manhood, may in fact get us into either a major war or may turn further toward controlling Americans and restricting their freedom. God Help Us!
