Fred is pro free trade, pro big-business, hence pro immigration. Sorry, I thought he was my candidate too. Unless he clears up these issues he won't get my vote. BTW increasing minimum wage increases inflation and the gap between ultra rich and ultra poor.

I will say one thing, the silence I hear from the Thompson camp, the lack of DIRECTLY speaking on ANY subject, the constant use of vague rhetoric, that lack of definitive commitment is deafening...

And very disconcerting, for me anyway...

Sbeene,
I know I'm getting to be a broken record, but you just described everything Fred has NOT been according to his voting record, and everything Duncan Hunter is. He has always been against NAFTA, and has a perfect immigration record according to Americans for Better Immigraion, and he has been working against the superhighway (he wrote the bill to stop it), and working against the SPP.

Fred voted to expand NAFTA, for lowering penalties on compaines that hire illegals, for amnesty, has a C from Americans for Better Immigration...etc...

Well said TexasFred. I would add that I too want SPECIFICS and not the same rhetoric that we have heard from so many who have not delivered. Bush talked a good game and then ignored us. And I do not yet hear any response from Fred Thompson as to TexasFred's, and our, questions. Where is the response or is this another "no response" politician???

I want to see Thompson or any other SERIOUS candidte make a vow to:
 strictly follow the constitution,
VIGOROUSLY enforce our current immigration laws including employer penalties,
secure our US/Mexico border and our ports,
NOT operate justice as a political tool (like the Gestapo),
drop the unconstitutional and extra-legal North American Union (SPP) plan,
remind the Supreme court that we operate by US, not international, law,
rework or kill NAFTA, CAFTA, FTAA treaties that decimate the middleclass,
reinvigorate the FDA so we have a safe food supply,
stop federal government being run only to the benefit of BIG business,
spend tax dollars on the US instead of everywhere else.

It would be amazing to have a president and administration whose first thought is "what is best for America" instead of every other possible consideration being more important. We have 100% critical problems in our nation plus a badly aging infrastructure that has been ignored for the last 50+ years. Our tax dollars are supposed to be for our benefit, not the UN, not some other nation, and not for international game playing.

Let's see what Thompson has to say about that, or, whether he will even address it at all. I suspect we will hear just more silence or empty rhetoric.

" we are folks that have been lied to, used, abused and all around ignored by the very people we elected and we’re tired of it, we are fed up with lies, rhetoric and hollow promises…" Very well said , I'm tired of politicians who talk out of both sides of their mouths. I thought Fred was (and may still be) a true conservative, but time will tell. I will still support FT unless and until he, as Ablur said,"suddenly makes a violent left turn to bring himself to center." We have more rino's in Washington than an African safari, we don't need one more. But as I said time will tell.

IF. and I mean IF,,,Fred chooses an arab to run his campaign, I am outta here. All arabs have made lying an "art form". Spencer Abraham is an ARAB, and once an arab, always an arab.
Remember that.

So, the question is: does Fred Thompson promote an arab as his official spokesman??

Sincerely, mrchuck of Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Regardless of his track record, I'm still supporting Fred. I feel he has the constitution to do what is right for this country, as opposed to the other candidates. I'm looking for a President that carries a big stick...I hope I'm voting for the right man.

ablur, I know the feeling. I was a Fredhead when I first started to hear rumors of the campaign. I'm from Tennesee, and thus knew who he was as a politician as well as an actor. I changed my mind when I saw his votes on immigration in the past (very similar to John McCain's), minimum wage, how he voted not to impeach clinton, campaign finance reform, etc.... I honestly think Duncan Hunter is everyone people have thought Fred is and then some. But that's my opinion. I highly encourage us all to look more closely at fred. Read voting records, grades from grassroot groups, etc... and look at it meticulously. We don't want the elect someone who will continue to sell of the GOP into a moderate party. And we also should take a lesson from the Kennedy-McCain immigration bill. The people can stand up for what they believe in if they so choose. If we find someone who is currently in the lower-tier and consider them the right man (IMHO, Duncan H.), we can really do something about it! Don't give up hope!

This is a really sad commentary. Did the candidate who gave vast hope to the right suddenly make a violent left turn to bring himself to center?

I will be looking for a message that will confirm the candidate we all eagerly seek, but I fear it is only a myth.
