Minn. Bridge Problems Uncovered in 1990, but just WHO is at fault?

August 3rd, 2007 . by TexasFred

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota officials were warned as early as 1990 that the bridge that collapsed into the Mississippi River was “structurally deficient,” yet they relied on a strategy of patchwork fixes and stepped-up inspections.

“We thought we had done all we could,” state bridge engineer Dan Dorgan told reporters not far from the mangled remains of the span. “Obviously something went terribly wrong.”

Questions about the cause of the collapse and whether it could have been prevented arose Thursday as authorities shifted from rescue efforts to a grim recovery operation, searching for bodies that may be hidden beneath the river’s swirling currents.

The official death count from Wednesday’s rush-hour collapse stood at four, with another 79 injuries. But police said the death count would surely grow because bodies had been spotted in the water and as many as 30 people were still reported missing.

George H.W. Bush was VP from Jan. of 1981 until Jan. of 1989 at which time he became President of the United States, so, I guess if you get right down to it, maybe the bridge collapse IS Bush’s fault after all, George H.W. Bush that is…

But, if you delve a bit deeper, William Jefferson Clinton was the next one to hold the office of the presidency, from Jan. of ‘93 until Jan. 0f 2001, and now I have to wonder, didn’t anyone tell Mr. Clinton that the bridges were in bad shape and needed some serious and immediate attention?? Surely they did…

So, wouldn’t the fact that Bill Clinton was president for 8 years, and obviously did nothing to alleviate any crumbling infrastructure, wouldn’t that make him at least AS complicit as GHW Bush, if not even more so, since he was president for 4 more years than GHW Bush?? And I don’t hear the moonbats at DU or Kos screaming about Brother Bill not taking care of the infrastructure, do you??

And, if we’re going to look at it from this perspective, Bush 43 has been in office for 6 1/2 years and according to some, *cough the DUmp/Kos cough*, Bush 43 bears ALL responsibility for the steam pipe in NYC, the bridge collapse in Minnesota, global warming, terrorist attacks and God only knows what else…

The only thing I see as a constant in the current maladies effecting the USA is this, 2 recurring names in the hierarchy of American politics, Bush and Clinton, they have split being the Vice President or President for the last 26 1/2 years, and our nation is a wreck, we are torn up so badly, that there is serious doubt that the USA can be, or is even worth putting back together, and in it’s current incarnation I have some serious doubts myself…

And just when you think it can’t possibly get ANY worse, up pops the devil in a light grey tailored pant suit, the one, the only, Hillary Clinton, and she wants to continue the Clinton/Bush legacy for at least through the next 8 years if she’s elected, at which time Jeb Bush should be about ready to make HIS run at screwing up America, if there’s still an America to screw up…

They have got to be stopped folks, I am not a conspiracy nut kind of guy, but when 2 families have been allowed to exercise that much control over the United States, and can possibly, feasibly exert as much as 16 more years of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, Bush upon this nation, don’t you think it’s time to draw a line and say this is where it all stops??

If we don’t stop it now, by the time Jeb Bush has had HIS turn, Chelsea Clinton will be about ready to run for office, and the nightmare just goes on and on and on, all we need now is the inter-marrying of a Clinton and a Bush, the spawn of that union would likely be the anti-Christ…

“…all we need now is the inter-marrying of a Clinton and a Bush,…”

    BAWAHAHAHAHA

Well, Jeb has a son that is half Mexican and him and Chelsea would make a good pair..then again Jeb also has a daughter has a history as a druggie and her and Bill would make a good pair..

The irony is that Jeb was a pretty good governor for Florida. He kept our economy going during the last recession and our unemployment has not been over five percent in years..of course wages suck at best and Jeb never met a developer he couldn’t get along with…

Infrastructure is expensive. I don’t mind my tax dollars going there. I don’t like my tax dollars going to social programs though. Normal wear-and-tear has been occurring on our bridges and roadways since they were built — wasn’t it the Eisenhower (Republican) Interstate Highway system? The House is where spending bills must originate — doesn’t that put the blame on Congress?

ABC said last night it would take more than a trillion dollars to fix the infrastructure of the transportation system alone. This morning Georgia Public Radio said Georgia needs to spend 2 billion on the road system here. We don’t have anything like that, on a state or federal level. So I guess we are essentially down the drainn.
