Rowlett: Residents protest taxes at TEA party

In 1773 Americans threw crates of tea into the harbor to protest taxes. More than 200 years later, they protested higher taxes with tea again, this time hanging tea bags from hats and signs and gathering for TEA parties across the nation.

A crowd of about 200 people gathered along Main Street in Rowlett Wednesday to voice their opinion on government spending at a Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party. The rally was one of thousands held on tax day to protest proposed tax hikes.

The Rowlett rally featured speakers, including business owners, educators, entrepreneurs, doctors, and residents. Several people brought posters, and others wore hats draped with tea bags representing the reasons they upset with the government.

“What we see now is a government that’s throwing our money away,” said Jeff Estep of Rowlett. “It started with [President George W.] Bush. Nobody’s listening up in Washington to us.”

Folks, we had a marvelous time this afternoon, we met some great folks, made some new friendships and got to see other folks that we know and don’t get to see that often. The wife and I worked one of the tables handing out literature, tea bags, signs and buttons. I was one of the speakers and once the organizers get it loaded on YouTube I will have that here for you.

Rowlett is a small, bedroom community, I was still hoping for a better turnout but there were so many Tea Parties in the area that the small towns just didn’t get the BIG turnouts. We had one suspected ACORN *watcher*, he never said a word, never showed any emotion of any kind and left as things were just too boring for him. We also had 2 Ron Paul supporters, they didn’t garner too much sympathy, and bless Wicked Stepmother and her TEXAS heart, she told one of them off in the nicest fashion imaginable!! :P

Below is me and WSM, she was watching speakers, I was watching the crowd… :?

Small? It was small when I lived there more than 20 years ago. Now???? Not so much. :)

Looking forward to that video! I KNOW you kicked some butt. :P

We only had a couple of incidents, but nothing major. One was shut down when the folks around her shouted she had a 1st Amendment right to speak her mind. Kind of threw her for a loop. Heh.

Well, it’s small up next to Dallas, but look at it this way, we don’t have East Dallas, South Dallas or Oak Cliff…

This was nothing more than a beginning today, I for my part, stressed that this is NOT about race, as so many have tried to imply, it’s NOT about Dems and Repubs, right and left, it’s about America, and saving Her!!

By the grace of God and the sweat of a ton of PATRIOTS, we WILL get the job done!! :)

Vigilante, I learned something today, you can’t tuck an XD-45 Tactical into your boot, NOT with your big damned leg in there… :?

I had to carry a smaller piece, not a problem, we had a great turnout, not even a hint of trouble…

We had about 2-300 today out of 5000. Poorly organized though. We had a few guest speakers but no PA system, and the people in the back (me) couldn’t hear what was being said. I’m lucky to hear the missus in the kitchen. LOL Did read all the signs though.

Fred.GET A BIGGER BOOT!!! Problem solved. LMAO It might look a bit conspicous though wearing one boot 3 sizes larger than the other. LOL But then again, Hoppy always wore 2 hoglegs.

Glad to hear you had a good turnout in Rowlett.

Also sounds like the tea parties nationwide got at least some coverage in the MSM.

Rick Perry is certainly full of surprises. I’ve never cared for him at all, but I could almost like him for this sudden state’s rights advocacy, if it wasn’t for that whole Trans-Texas Corridor thing. He’s still got some ’splainin’ to do on the TTC.

Watching clips of the protests on the news last night, I realized that for every protester, there was at least 5 other who would have been out there if they didn’t have to work or have other obligations. I think the people out there were only the tip of the iceberg.

Retail prices in stores are already going up as businesses prepare for the massive increase in taxes. I work retail and every week we’re posting price increases as our corporate office prepares for the inevitable.

CNN really slammed the Tea Party Protesters in one of their segments.

BobF hit it when he wrote: “For every protester, there was at least 5 others who would have been out there if they didn’t have to work. . .”

    Precisely.

Doesn’t matter how many actually showed up Fred. The fact is people made the effort to be there representing all those who couldn’t.

Over 2,000 Tea Parties nation wide all of them filled with patriots from every walk of life imaginable.

Even in the land of fruits and nuts, Sacramento produced an estimated 10,000 total by days end. I arrived an hour early, and had to park in the North Forty so I knew the crowd was already there. The MC told us that 3,000 plus were already in attendance with more arriving by the truck load every minute. Before I left 2 hours later we were elbow to elbow in a sea of patriots.
    What a great day!!

Nice shirt by the way. Moonbat blood just kinda blends in.

Thanks for what you did in your area Fred.

I attended one in my area, about 4,000 showed, and helped get people signed in and handed literature and water.

    The fight has only begun.
