WASHINGTON (AP) – Fred Thompson on Wednesday tapped the man he credits with saving his 1994 Senate campaign to take over his likely presidential bid.
Bill Lacy, a former strategist for Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and Republican National Committee, will run day-to-day operations of Thompson’s committee to “test the waters” for a presidential run.
OK, being a ‘strategist’ for Reagan speaks pretty highly of the guy but he didn’t do Bob Dole a lot of good, I hope he’s learned from his errors…
And this ‘testing the waters’ BS is getting really OLD in a BIG hurry, at least for me, and it has nothing to do with a lack of patience on my part, ‘testing the waters’, and ‘the waters are feeling real warm’, that ranks right up there with ‘we must stay the course’, we don’t need catchy slogans and phrases, we don’t need pandering politicians, we NEED patriots that aren’t afraid to enter into politics, and patriots that will not let themselves be consumed BY politics, and yes, I DO know what the chances of that happening really are, but we can hope…
The all-but-declared candidate collected about $1.5 million less than the $5 million backers had hoped to bring in during June, his first fundraising month. In July, Thompson sidelined his campaign-manager-in-waiting, Tom Collamore, and watched a few other aides follow him out the door amid consternation inside the operation about the active role of Thompson’s wife, Jeri.
At the time, aides said former senator and energy secretary Spencer Abraham and a Florida GOP strategist, Randy Enwright, would take over the unofficial campaign. But that turned out to be a temporary solution as the Thompsons sought a replacement for Collamore, who still is advising Thompson.
So, does this mean that Spencer ‘Open Borders’ Abraham is OUT of the Thompson campaign?? Because I have made no secret of my feelings towards this guy and what his involvement would do to my support for Thompson…
I can’t help but believe that naming Abraham to ANY post within the Thompson campaign is a bad move, and one that would, or possibly could seriously inhibit donations from folks like me, I know that since the day it was announced that Abraham was involved, I haven’t given one penny to the Thompson campaign and have not written one word in it’s support either…
Maybe I’m too idealistic, maybe I’m too blunt at times and maybe I expect my elected officials to be as blunt and honest and as idealistic as I am, maybe that’s the reason I can’t bring myself to even consider running for City Council here at home, I don’t BS around, I don’t tell people lies, I don’t tell people what they WANT to hear just to appease them and get a vote, I support America 1st, above all others, and I have nothing but contempt for those Americans that do otherwise…
I hate it when politicians speak in vague generalities, and Mr. Thompson has that speaking style down to a science, he can talk for 30 minutes and never make a solid commitment to anything, maybe that’s why I’m having so many conflicted feelings about supporting him at this point in time, I still think he’s a decent choice, but I just don’t feel any excitement…
I sincerely hope this move helps Mr. Thompson in his run, but I also hope it helps him to come out and be a lot more forceful in his presentation, lukewarm will NOT win the White House and having Spencer Abraham involved, in ANY way, will not garner conservative supporters…

This dancing around and shadow boxing has gotten old real quick. Either you’re pregnant or you aren’t, tell us which one it is. I’ve not been a wild Thompson supporter from the start and this pussyfooting around doesn’t help any.
I’ve also read some disquieting things about how Thompson was a lazy absentee US Senator who missed a lot of roll-calls. And the real reason he didn’t run when his term was up, was that he didn’t think he would re-elected.
I’ll say this, I am going to continue to tentatively support Thompson, simply because I don’t think Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo stand a snowballs chance in hell of being elected, if I did, they would be the ones I supported and Thompson would be gone from my pages… He IS electable, but he scares me to some degree…
And if he doesn’t declare and come out swinging, and I mean swinging HARD over Labor Day, I am done with him, I will vacate my Thompson roll and do away with it and every other Thompson support roll I am involved with…
I will NOT support a PUSSY… And I will NOT stand for the lesser of 2 evils ever again…
Amen Fred, I’ve always said there are only 2-3 folks I completely agree with as far as politics goes and of course you’re one of them.
I feel the same damn way or I wouldn’t get so absorbed into what you write..
I’m still supporting him but with extreme caution at the moment, I think the guy is another flaming globalist.

The quantity of Illegal Aliens here in Texas HAS to be dealt with NOW.
The flow has to be shut down, period. The Texas Border wall has to be built now, and shift the sneaking into this country over to New Mexico and Arizona border.
