A top US military officer in charge of coordinating the US war effort in Iraq said Friday that it makes sense to consider a return of the draft to meet the US military’s needs. Lieutenant General Douglas Lutte, who serves as White House deputy national security adviser, said the all-volunteer military is serving “exceedingly well” and the administration has not decided it needs to be replaced with a draft.

I know a lot of troops that DON’T want a draft, they feel they have a stronger and more professional force with the all volunteer Army, but if the recruitment numbers don’t come up, you have to get fresh meat from somewhere…
WASHINGTON (AP) – Democrats on Saturday touted legislation to guarantee troops time at home between deployments to Iraq. In the party’s weekly radio address, Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif., criticized President Bush for threatening to veto the bill, contending his administration’s policies on troop deployments have weakened the military.

Democrat Rep.: Troops Need More Rest
If you read this story I am guessing you’ll come to the same conclusion I have, this has little to do with the troops and everything to do with party politics…
NEW YORK (AP) – Authorities were taking extra counterterrorism precautions Friday in response to what they said was an unsubstantiated radiological threat to the city. Officials said they had not changed the city’s terror alert status in response to online chatter mentioning a truck packed with radioactive material. But police deployed extra radiological sensors on street, water and air patrols, and were stopping vehicles at checkpoints in lower Manhattan and around the city.

There’s only one thing that surprises me about this story, and that’s why anyone would be surprised that the ragheads would use the internet as a weapon, I don’t know if they have all the high speed FIOS and DSL we have but they have ‘net techs and they know how to use it…
BAGHDAD (AP) – The U.S. military said on Friday that firebrand Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr had returned to Iran, where he had spent several months earlier this year as the United States was sending 30,000 additional troops to the Baghdad area. Al-Sadr’s office said he was still in Iraq.

U.S. Military Says Al-Sadr in Iran Again
al-Sadr has been at the root of a lot of the troubles in Iraq for well over 3 years now, I don’t know why it matters to our military where he is, even if we had a team in place that had him in their sights, our president doesn’t have the balls to give the order to blow his head off, that seems to run in the Bush family, lack of balls for executive orders…
