Palin resignation leaves questions on 2012 run
WASILLA, Alaska (AP) – Even for a nonconformist, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has defied political logic with her sudden, stunning announcement to leave office more than a year early.
Supporters and critics alike say the former GOP vice presidential candidate’s resignation, announced Friday afternoon and effective July 26, is an inexplicable move for a high profile Republican widely seen as a contender for a White House run in 2012. A half-term governor campaigning for president?
“If she is thinking that leaving her term 16 months early is going to help her prepare to maybe go on to bigger and better things on the political stage, I think she’s sadly mistaken. You just can’t quit,” said Andrew Halcro, a Palin critic who lost the 2006 gubernatorial race to her.
Palin’s abrupt announcement Friday rattled the Republican Party but left open the possibility of a presidential run. She and her staff are keeping mum on her future plans.

Palin resignation leaves questions on 2012 run
To all those folks that voted for the McCain/Palin ticket, and said their vote for McCain was actually a vote for Palin, what’s on your mind now?
I didn’t vote for McCain/Palin. I voted for Bob Barr, and before ANYONE goes off saying that a vote for Barr was a vote for Obama, go stuff yourself! It was a vote for the man I felt to be the most qualified candidate in an extremely weak field of candidates, candidates from ALL sides of the equation.
I have read much speculation regarding Palin and her possible reasons for resigning.
Some say she’s just a quitter. That is a possibility. I really can’t see a sitting Governor just deciding to leave office, regardless of the words she said about not wanting to be a LAME DUCK. She’s a one term Governor, she could have easily run for Governor of Alaska again.
Some are of the opinion that this is nothing but a move designed to get her prepared for a run at the White House in 2012. Maybe it is. In MY opinion, IF it is, it’s a really LAME way of going about it, Americans don’t like quitters. A sitting Governor, Senator or Congressman running for the White House is more than acceptable and she could, and again, in MY opinion SHOULD have pursued that path if this is her intent.
Then I read a few blogs that plainly state, Palin resigned because she was tired of all the snark and snide that was directed at her and her family. OK, maybe so, that is a strong possibility. Let’s say that’s the case, if she can’t take the heat as a Governor, HOW IN THE HELL will she take the heat as POTUS? How will she take the critical news articles, blog posts, late night comics and foreign press as it’s piled on in the event she were to become POTUS?
In my opinion, she would collapse like the proverbial house of cards.
The GOP is in trouble my friends, they have a lot of house cleaning to do. Mark Sanford in South Carolina and John Ensign of Nevada are prime recent examples. Then we have this; June 11, 2007: Republican Senator Larry Craig is arrested for lewd conduct in the men’s bathroom of an airport. March 8, 2007: Republican former U.S. Congressman and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich admits to extramarital affair, April 23, 2007: Federal auditors find repeat violations of federal election law from the 2004 Senate campaign of Republican Senator Mel Martinez, July 11, 2007: Republican state Representative and Florida co-Chairman of McCain for President Bob Allen is arrested for soliciting a male undercover police officer, offering to pay $20 to perform oral sex and July 16, 2007: Republican Senator David Vitter holds press conference acknowledging being on the D.C. Madam’s list and past involvement with prostitutes.
Those are just a few of the more high profile cases to date. There are rumors afloat that there may be some kind of scandal about to break concerning Palin. Until such time as it breaks, I won’t even speculate. But I will say this, there are far too many possibilities at hand with this sudden resignation. There are, at this time, too many unknowns to even make a great educated guess.
As many already know, I am NOT a Republican nor am I a Democrat. I have very little use for most of the Republicans and none of the Dems in office at this time! Luckily, in MY part of Texas, we have 3 of the best Congressional Representatives we could ask for in Sam Johnson, Ralph Hall and Jeb Hensarling. Our U.S. Senators leave a lot to be desired, but compared to many other Senators, they are great!
I will say this, and again, it is MY opinion, the GOP is in DESPERATE trouble! If Sarah Palin is where the GOP is pinning it’s hopes, if Sarah Palin is the best the GOP can offer up, the GOP is screwed!

Hey Fred – I watched her press conference yesterday. I actually understand why she quit. She was wasting taxpayer money and time defending herself against all the frivolous charges and from what has been reported – there are more coming. She stated more than $2 million of Alaskan taxpayer money was spent wastefully as a result of all the ethics charges against her. She has always been a strong fiscal conservative and this move makes sense in my opinion. She is living up to the standards she set for herself. She also mentioned she’s doing it for her family. Her child Trig and her daughter have been on the wrong end of the media lately by some really nasty people. That’s not right nor fair to her children, so she’s doing this for her family as well.
I don’t know if this is in preparation for a run in 2012 – but – this move was right for Alaska and for her family. I have to respect anyone who does the right thing even if it seems to be the unpopular thing.
Happy Independence day Fred and all others today. Enjoy your Tea party action tonight all and God Bless America minus the liberal disease we’re fighting off right now.
It’s a tough call not being in her shoes, I think too, she’s still young and maybe just wants the kids to be a few years older, two older ones will be gone and thats less bullshit for her to deal with…Then the ankle grabbing momo’s can’t bitch she’s not raising her kids and all that liberal jive
and then maybe jumps back in after going around the country as a conservative cheerleader and whipping up the crowds beating the snot out of the Kenyan born Muslim for a year or two, dropping bombs she couldn’t do as a governor of a state,
PLus those vaseline hoarders are bankrupting the shi& out of her with these false claims, tort reform would put a halt to that crap.
Especially now that word is floating that the entire RNC payroll is being fired Monday morning, some women bloggers are saying they got some heads up on a bloodletting on the way. Fausta, Velvet and a couple others.
Fred, I watched her resignation speech yesterday, and IMOPO, she was looking to happy to be concerned about resigning her governorship.
I think she is going to make a run for the senate, or the congress in 2010 and get elected.(or at least hope to) Then with that to her portfolio, plus, her governorship, she’ll look pretty good to throw her hat in the ring against Hoswami fuckwadi. Of course by the time 2012 rolls around, ANYBODY is gonna look good against… “shit-for-brains.”
I don’t know if she is planning to run for anything, but I do know that she was barraged with one ethics complaint after another. As soon as one was resolved, another would be filed and NONE of them had any merit but ALL had to be investigated by Alaskan law. I agree with BoBo, I think she resigned because she was a lightening rod for the radical assholes on the left. Resigning for the right reasons is a good thing methinks, even if she only preaches the conservative pov and never runs for anything again.
GM
GOP in trouble? Come on, Fred! The GOP is on life support with gremlins tugging on the plug!
I’ll tell ya, The Bull liked Palin – until this sudden cowardly move. She is now just as much of a non-entity as McCain.
Now, this minute, is the time for a third party to strike out. I would like to see such a political party based ENTIRELY on the strict reading of the Constitution. In all matters we must use that document as our guide.
The other option is a worse civil war than the 19th Century one.
Bull, out.
Bull… A 3rd party… Hell yeah, but not one saddled by meek leadership, not one that tries to saddle it’s members with PCness, not one that TELLS their members they can’t say this and they can’t say that…
If we’re gonna have a 3rd Party, by GOD, it’s gonna have to be a bunch of people that aren’t afraid to wade right into the fire and say what the hell MUST be said, PC be damned…
And Bull, you and BoBo know what I mean and WHY this is being said…
To everyone else, I am glad you feel that way about Palin, but I am thinking her 15 minutes has gone on for far too long, as I said, if she is the best the GOP can muster, the GOP is totally screwed!
Happy Independence Day to all defenders of the Constitution. Unshackling the chains of a tyrannical govt is what has begot us this holiday, lets not forget that.
Like Bull’s idea of a third party based on the Constitution and I like Fred’s comments on no BS.
Looked at ACP and don’t know if they can cut it yet. But changes in govt need to be made to get some of the left wing loons out by 2010.
If status quo prevails then civil unrest could prevail. May be what Obama wants so he can clamp down.
As for Palin; why would anyone in their right mind want to put their family and especially their kids through the crap the Letterman’s of this country are dishing out. Got to grab a burger and a beer.
I’m all over the map on Palin. But one thing’s for certain: she WILL be perceived as a quitter and if she can’t take that heat, how can she take larger political heat? She screwed herself on this one.
But the GOP? I don’t see much of ANYone viable waiting in the wings.
BZ
BZ, agreed, 100%… And the GOP is in the seriously deep and very smelly end of the pile right now..
I think that there is more to this story than we know about right now. Perhaps there is a scandal coming, I don’t know. I agree with your accessment, if she is leaving because of the heat she is feeling from the media right now she will never be able to take the heat as president.
I think that this move has cost her any future political goals that she may have had.
