Sen. Cornyn booed at Capitol tea party

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn drew boos from a crowd outside the Texas Capitol this afternoon as he spoke at a “tea party” rally organized by the Texas office of Americans for Prosperity.

Cornyn was booed at the start and close of his remarks, which assailed actions in Washington; there were no boos while he awarded a Purple Heart to a Copperas Cove resident injured in Iraq in 2006.

“You’re the problem,” a crowd member hollered.

Another crowd member yelled that Cornyn voted for the initial federal bailout of Wall Street approved by Congress last year, the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

Cornyn was the first elected official to speak, though Gov. Rick Perry and others are expected to have turns. UPDATE, 4:04 p.m.: Perry drew scattered boos, notably from crowd members aware of his advocacy of toll roads to relieve traffic congestion.

Cornyn, a Republican elected to his second Senate term last year, said before today’s gathering that he wasn’t sure what kind of reception he’d field.

“I don’t yet know exactly what it’s going to be like,” Cornyn said Wednesday.

I am sitting here at my desk and I am, quite literally, laughing like a mad man. I wasn’t at the Austin TEA Party. I wouldn’t have gone if I had been paid to go. And John Cornyn is one of the biggest reasons why, many of MY reasons are stated here: Sen. John Cornyn is NOT a CONSERVATIVE.

The other reason why is because of the disingenuous group that sponsored this TEA Party, Americans for Prosperity. I fully stated those reasons here: Activism, Political Activist Groups and the MSM.

It seems that the Texas branch of Americans for Prosperity thinks John Cornyn is “a strong conservative voice in Washington, D.C.” according to Peggy Venable, AFP-Texas director. It was that statement that caused me to lose ANY interest in the Texas branch of the AFP organization and the leaders OF that group.

ANY so-called Conservative group that touts a proven SOCIALIST as their key-note speaker for a 4th of July TEA Party is NOT what they claim to be and is NOT what this nation, nor the TEA Party needs.

“What do you think?” he asked a reporter. “You think it’s going to be OK? I’m waiting to see.”

“I didn’t want to come some place that I wasn’t wanted.”

Sen. Cornyn, it’s quite likely that the only people that wanted you there were the people that invited you, the folks at AFP. Many voters in Texas saw you for what you ARE when the 1st bailout went through and you voted for it without showing a sign of dissent.

Texans have LONG memories, and we bear a grudge for a LONG time.

Sen. Cornyn, I worked hard against you in the last election, I will work even harder against your buddy, Kay Bailey Hutchison, when she comes home to run for Governor. And if I am still living and able to participate when your next senatorial election comes around, I will still be lambasting you and your socialistic vote. I will work until the day I die to remove YOU and Sen. Hutchison from the face of Texas politics.

We don’t need the likes of you and Sen. Hutchison leaving a stain on Texas. I live in North Texas and we have the best congressional representation of ANY state in this nation in the persons of Jeb Hensarling, Ralph Hall and Sam Johnson. It’s a shame our senators can’t follow suit.

    Folks, ol’ TF is making it more than plain: you vote for stimulus, you vote for TARP, you vote for bailouts, the Texans are gonna vote YOU out.

    ‘Tea party’ crowd boos Cornyn, denounces Washington

    The tea party, organized by the Texas office of Americans for Prosperity, a nonpartisan group that says it advocates economic freedom, differed from one held Friday at Zilker Park, to which elected officials weren’t invited.

    The above quote is taken from the Declaration of Independence. Governments (politicians) derive their powers from the consent of the governed. When Cornyn and other voted for the bailout against the consent of the governed, they were in direct violation of the Declaration of Independence. Those in Washington have forgotten that any power they have is because we give it to them by consent. Unfortunately today, they just take the power because they feel being voted into office is consent enough.

    Then, they suddenly develop this attitude of doing what THEY want to do even when they KNOW that their constituents are overwhelmingly against it. Their main reason for this is for party favortism and it doesn’t matter which party. To hell with the people, just send in your money and quitchurbitchin we’ll spend it the way WE want, and WE have been letting them get away with it WAY too long.

    Sounds like the fix was in and that this was more of a campaign style event than I real Tea Party.
