GOP sources: Sen. Martinez to resign

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida will resign from the Senate this fall, more than a year before his term ends, according to several GOP sources.

Martinez planned a Friday afternoon announcement in Florida to officially divulge his plans. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to do so before his announcement.

Martinez already had said he would not seek re-election, but had fended off rumors that he would give up the seat early.

His decision puts Republican Gov. Charlie Crist – who is running to replace Martinez – in charge of filling the seat in the interim.

OK, 1st things 1st. Let’s get this story started off right. Something the MSM refuses to do. Maybe they don’t know the difference, who knows, the ignorance of MSM reporters is astounding, but here is how that 1st chapter should read;

There, I feel much better now. I hate it when the MSM refers to people like Martinez, Olympia Snowe, Lamar Alexander, Lindsey Graham, Kit Bond, Richard Lugar, George Voinovich, Judd Gregg and Susan Collins as Republicans. They are NOT Republicans, they are RINOs, and they are what is wrong with the Republican party. They ALL need to be removed from office ASAP!

Admittedly, I don’t know enough about Florida politics and the people involved. I know Gov. Crist is listed as a Republican, but I don’t know if that’s a misnomer or not. Maybe he is a REAL Republican, maybe he’s a RINO. That’s up to the people of Florida to decide, I have all I can deal with here in Texas. Besides, no matter what I think, there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome of Florida’s Senate problems. I just hope they handle it better than they have their last few elections…

He denied that he faced difficult re-election prospects in a state won by President Barack Obama. But he has struggled to boost public support because of his close ties to President George W. Bush and his efforts pushing an immigration bill that was unpopular with many Republicans.

As I have said previously, Mel Martinez, RINO.

No REAL Republican supported George W. Bush on his immigration bill.

Mel Martinez isn’t supported by Conservatives, he’s not one of them and Conservatives know it. Much the same as John McCain wasn’t supported by Conservatives as a whole. He was supported by the core members of the RNC, and that is just not good enough for me.

Martinez voted FOR the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor, and I am totally convinced that his vote was made strictly because of some ethnic bond he feels he shares with Sotomayor. Just another reason that I say, adios you poser, don’t let the doorknob hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

The people of Florida have their work cut out for them, and that bothers me greatly. If past performance is ANY indicator, we can expect more voting irregularities and a long term delay in results.
