Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is CAGW’s October Porker of the Month

Washington, D.C. – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today named Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) its October Porker of the Month. The four-term senator from Texas is loading up her goodie bag just before Halloween as she prepares to leave the Senate to run for governor. While claiming to be a fiscal conservative, Sen. Hutchison requested 149 projects worth $1.6 billion for authorization and appropriations bills for fiscal year 2010.

In a March 6, 2009 Dallas Morning News article, Sen. Hutchison said, “I do think that earmarks are a legitimate role of Congress. I don’t think that we should be earmarking things that do not have a national interest…Can it be overdone? Yes. Should it be transparent? Yes. But that is the role of Congress, to determine how we spend money.” On September 28, 2009, she told the Austin American-Statesman that “I’m proud of being able to garner Texans’ fair share of their tax dollars.”

“Sen. Hutchison is repeating the same old insidious quackery about the earmarking process: that it can be made accountable and that it somehow levels the spending playing field,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz. “The only fair way to distribute the taxpayers’ money is to eliminate the practice altogether and instead work to ensure that every dime of taxpayer money is spent using the budget laws and rules that they themselves established. Earmarking is a secretive, wasteful process that breeds a culture of corruption in Washington and distrust among taxpayers.”

According to CAGW’s pork database, Sen. Hutchison secured 130 projects worth $189 million in fiscal year (FY) 2009, and 145 projects worth $259 million for FY 2008. So far, the senator has appeared in several of CAGW’s Pork Alerts for FY 2010. In the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, she joined several other senators in getting $50.5 million for the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC). The Senate bill had already appropriated $132 million to the NDPC even before the earmark. In the Military Construction Appropriations Act, Sen. Hutchison took home five projects worth $25,045,000, equal to 8.2 percent of the total dollars in the bill. In the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act, she grabbed earmarks for two light rail transportation (LRT) projects: $75,000,000 for the Houston North Corridor LRT and $75,000,000 for the Houston Southeast Corridor LRT.

For personifying the tiresome hypocrisy of some members of Congress who want to claim the badge of fiscal conservatism while continuing to abscond with billions of dollars in wasteful pork projects, CAGW names Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison its October Porker of the Month.

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, and political candidates who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers.

It seems that this award is much akin to my Douchebag of the Week award.

I think everyone that has ever read my blog knows, I have some serious issues with Kay Bailey Hutchison. She is, in MY opinion, a socialist, an open borders advocate, quite likely an in the closet amnesty supporter and an all around RINO! A Republican In Name Only!

Prove it, you say? Gladly, says I!

Sen. Kay *Bailout* Hutchison bails out on defunding ACORN. She didn’t bother to show up for this vote to de-fund ACORN.

More you say? Okie dokie, try this; Hutchison on defensive over border fence and Hutchison was an ardent supporter of the Immigrant Dream Act, another *back door* attempt at amnesty for ILLEGALS, Immigrant ‘Dream’ Act Fails Key Senate Vote.

“But Fred”, you say, “Is that ALL you have? It doesn’t seem so bad, and why oh why would you call a wonderful Republican like Sen. Hutchison a Socialist RINO?”

Here’s WHY: Hutchison proved herself to be nothing more than a SOCIALIST when she vote FOR the Wall Street bailout, Congress OKs historic bailout bill. She voted FOR a bailout that approximately 68% of Texas voters told her they didn’t want. KBH did NOT listen to the wishes of those that put her in office, an event that is happening all too often with far too many elected officials lately!

That’s all I need right there. If anyone is demanding any MORE proof or reasons, they are nothing more than a BLIND Hutchison supporter and a RINO lemming following the Washington Insider as she tries to bring her Socialist agenda and support for ILLEGALS back home to Texas!

Vote her out Texas, retire the old RINO. Rick Perry may not be perfect, but he’s NOT an insider in Washington and he’s NOT a socialist!

That’s good enough for me

I never cared much for Kay Bailey, but did check out the CAGW site and that’s quite eye-opening. I wonder if she thinks she is buying votes by bringing home the bacon. For many of us those days are long gone. Pork barrel projects only benefit a few at the expense of all and that’s what Washington has been about for years and years. Special interest have had their way for far too long. Hopefully a new wind is blowing and this change will be change we can believe in.

    Good post Fred!

My family and I intend to vote for Rick in the Spring Primary. KBH is not a conservative. She is not really pro-life….gets confused on “age of viability” and other stupid ideas. She also believes in human embryonic stem cell research. A few years back, my wife and I watched her divide the Republican State Convention, in Houston, with her non-conservative views……but the party bigwigs had their way, and the Convention moved on. We don’t go (as delegates) anymore……too many RINOs for our taste!

Never in the history of This Great State of ours, has She been in more need of real, true, conservative, no-compromise leadership! Never…..not even back when She was a Republic. Back then, there were scores of men who stepped up and did the job with no compromise, no matter the odds….men like Houston, Austin, Crockett, and Bowie. Do such men still exist today? Now, in these desperate times when Texas may, again, need to be a Republic, Her true patriots Must Not Compromise, when it comes to choosing our leaders.

Rick may not be perfect, but he has True Texas Values and is pro-life, as well. He gets all the votes in my family!

It is also time for us to look hard at the rest of our elected officials at both State and local levels. It’s up to us to make sure we have the conservative candidates of our choice on the ballot so we all can vote for them. Let’s make the next Texas and local election cycle be known as the “No-Compromise Election”. Oh, and for the information on those down-ballot candidates….you’ll have to dig it out for yourself. Many of these candidates really don’t want you to know where they stand on the conservative issues we all care about, so you’ll have to dig. Start with their brochure,…you know, the one that claims they can walk on water, and everyone who knows them, says they’re a conservative (surely, you don’t believe all that horse pucky). Then call, write, e-mail, look them up on-line, etc….and make your ‘no-compromise’ decision. Of course, if they are elected, HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!!!

My thanks to you Fred, for having this Blog and covering the conservative issues that are so vitally important!

This old cunt will say “if I don’t get the money, then someone else will get it”.
Well, I say that is what is terribly wrong in our Congress and Senate now, and all should be VOTED OUT if they feel this same way!
I do this in our Texas voting booth, and will do so every time I vote.

You did a good job with this Fred! I am now working on finding out exactly what her earmarks were, which bills she attached them to and who will benefit from them … then you can write “The rest of the story”. Thank you so much for speaking boldly and helping us make informed decisions about our choices of those who will represent us. You are a patriot Sir!

Earmarking is criminal… theft from taxpayers and the way leaders buy votes and financial support from special interest groups. Anyone who defends this process needs to be VOTED OUT, and I don’t care if they are elected as a dog catcher! There should be a way to bring charges against elected leaders who participate in this theft! Can you imagine how they’d look if they were served warrants in front of their pork barreling buddies??? JMHO. But of course we can’t even have the locked up when they don’t pay taxes!
