New York get's what they deserve on this one. Hooray for VA and NJ. It does show an awakening is happening. Too bad Pelosi is so drunk on power and koolaid that she's not "getting the message". I can't wait to see her lose her precious "power position"!!!

This was a good night for conservatives, New York 23 notwithstanding, but it was only the beginning. We need to carry this momentum into the 2010 elections. We may be energized now but we need to stay energized. There is still work to be done.

Lee I have never understood why many vote a straight ticket, but they often do. I would like to see that feature stripped from the ballot, but the two parties will never let that happen. Its their way of protecting a down ticket weak candidate. American politics sucks, but then no other system is better. I do however like the multi-party systems of some European countries---those systems do offer more choices.

My understanding is that Scuzzy didn't leave the race in time for her name to be taken off the ballot. Thus alot of people who just voted straight republican had their votes go to her and basically were wasted votes. We will never know for sure if the would have chosen to vote for Hoffman instead, but I'd like to think many of them would have. So don't completely give up hope in NY just yet.

I was really hoping Hoffman would have pulled it off but considering all the Republican money went to Scuzzy and he didn't get into the race until recently, he really didn't do to bad. Also, when she endorsed the Democrat candidate, many voters who didn't know better probably followed her recommendation. Unfortunately there are still a lot of people who don't have a clue and only follow a person or party. But, they are waking up as yesterday proved.

Also, me being originally from NY, their politics can be really screwed up. A candidate can run on both the Republican and Democrat tickets. Unless you follow elections close, especially local ones, it's very hard to tell exactly what a candidate is; Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, etc.

Maine was somewhat surprising to me also Fred, but then ever time the voters have gotten to vote on this issue they have rejected it nation wide despite having their state legislatures and judges rule the other way. This is only additional proof that our elected officials are out-of-step with the man oon the street. Guess there are some sane people left in Maine despite the migration from NY state to escape the high taxes---I idea that the new immigrants from NY will bring with them despite their move to Maine. Liberals never learn---I saw this happen in FL during the 10 years I lived there.

As you said in your post this is only a first step and a very tiny one at that and is only a beginning on a very long path back to national sanity. But for today, at least we conservatives can smile. Heck I may go squirrel hunting late this afternoon. I feel so sporting I may use my pellet rifle instead of my 22 rifle.
