Do Not Call Listings to Expire in 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) – The cherished dinner hour void of telemarketers could vanish next year for millions of people when phone numbers begin dropping off the national Do Not Call list.

The Federal Trade Commission, which oversees the list, says there is a simple fix. But some lawmakers think it is a hassle to expect people to re-register their phone numbers every five years.

Numbers placed on the registry, begun in June 2003, are valid for five years. For the millions of people who signed onto the list in its early days, their numbers will automatically drop off beginning next June if they do not enroll again.

“It is incredibly quick and easy to do,” Lydia Parnes, director of the FTC’s bureau of consumer protection, said in an interview with The Associated Press this week. “It was so easy for people to sign up in the first instance. It will be just as easy for them to re-up.”

There is nothing I hate worse than telemarketers, except maybe ragheads and wetbacks, telemarketers are the scum of the earth and need to be hung out by their toenails and have rotten eggs and over ripe tomatoes thrown at them, repeatedly…

I had forgotten about this no-call list having an expiration date so this very morning I re-registered my home phone, cell phone and fax line, and then I figured it might be appreciated by some of you if the information was shared…

The call is free and on-line renewal or registration is a snap, how easy can it be?? Now if they’d just crack down on those damned email spammers…

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY

Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

  1. I signed myself up, and my father. It has been remarkably effective. Thank you most kindly for this timely reminder.

I don’t worry about it, I don’t use a phone much and most of the time it’s dead because I forgot to recharge it.

All incoming calls are usually restricted to a preset call list.

They don’t like me anyway: I’ve called them whores, sluts, bitches, queers, faggots, and sand niggers if I recognize the accent etc.

It’s a proven technique for as long as you get a real person on the other end and not a recording.
