My ancestors fought for the North and the South. I am proud of all of them and I am proud of my heritage. I respect the heritage of others, and I expect them to respect mine. By the way, my family only fought, they never owned a slave, so I owe no man an apology.

Robert E Lee my hero in my youth and still my hero today. A man with principles, honor, and loyalty and he never comprised on any of those things. Robert E Lee and I share the state of VA as our birth state and for that I’m eternally grateful. Note: If you’re a Yankee don’t bother trying to figure this out, its a ‘Southern Thing’ and you’ll never understand.

And an perfect home school lesson as Lee asked about the portrait… He’s very proud of his Southern heritage and all his ancestors fought out of Tennessee, Arkansas and South Carolina during the Civil War. In fact, I’m the first Yankee in the family – according to our genealogy reearch However, we have copies of letters the Reep boys sent back to their parents in Arkansas about a “pet Yankee” their unit had during the war
