BAGHDAD (AP) – A parked car bomb struck worshippers heading to a Shiite mosque Sunday in Baghdad, killing at least nine people as Iraqis celebrated a Muslim holiday. Authorities said 18 others died the day before when a suicide truck bomber followed by a swarm of gunmen attacked a regional police station.
Nobody claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they bore the hallmarks of al-Qaida in Iraq insurgents who had promised an offensive during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan to undermine U.S.-Iraqi claims of success in quelling the violence in the capital with an 8-month-old security operation.
The fasting month culminated this weekend with the three-day Eid al-Fitr festival that began on Friday for Sunnis and Saturday for Shiites.
After the bombing in Baghdad, police banned cars from the area surrounding the shrine in the Kazimiyah district in northwestern Baghdad until further notice, a police officer said.
Every time there is a change in statistics in Iraq, the Bush administration has a ‘gloat fest’, Bush tells the insurgents, “Bring it onâ€, so they did, Bush and DoD officials say “The violence is down and fewer people are being killed†and the insurgents show us one more time, down is a relative term and they aren’t defeated, far from it, and we continue to prosecute a politically correct system of conducting our actions in Iraq while the insurgents have no idea of what PCness or rules of war are or what it means…
Immediately after the blast, about 20 vehicles with at least 60 gunmen drove up to the site and fought with police, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to media.
At least three police officers were wounded in the ensuing fighting, which ended after U.S. military helicopters flew overhead.
An American military official in the area said the gunmen were armed with rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons. The official credited Iraqi police with preventing further casualties.
The 1st thing that struck me here was the fact that American helicopters flew over and didn’t blast the living hell out of the insurgents, that would have been at least 60 Islamic moonbats that would never attack anyone again…
Then this thought hit me, a few days ago American air attacks engaged and killed several insurgents and almost immediately Muslim propaganda specialists had the story in the MSM saying American infidel warplanes killed several children, 9 Children Killed in U.S. Raid in Iraq and I wonder, is that type of BS propaganda on the minds of U.S. officials coordinating the counterattacks in Iraq??
I sincerely hope that the PC methods that the current administration has exhibited in the past aren’t coming into play now, we are going to offend people if we attack, we are going to KILL people if we attack, it’s a fact of WAR, people die, and while it is a regrettable subject matter, in war, sometime it’s innocent people that do the dying…
We are very good at what we do but every attack can’t be conducted with surgical precision, once in a while you just expend ordinance on the target that presents itself, and if there were over 60 armed individuals in cars, with automatic weapons and RPG’s and we didn’t waste them immediately, it concerns me greatly, those individuals WILL be back to try and kill again…

We have no business over there, trying to win a war if we’re worried about offending anyone.
Our forces aren’t out to to purposely, erratically and irresponsibly kill innocent people.
You’re right, every attack, or response, can’t be done with precision and they are so good at doing this in crowds of people, using them as shields, they are well aware of our civilized nature and use the political correctness game against us.
We will not be able to defeat these savages unless the PC mentality is loosened up a bit.
Were not going to stop every insurgent, or as they should be called, Terrorists. All it takes is one person, one car, and some explosives such as a tank of gasoline. We couldn’t stop the VC in Vietnam because we didn’t know who they were on a daily basis. The guy on the street waving to you every day may have an explosives belt on next week when he stops to wave hi.
gunz is absolutely correct about being over there and worrying about offending anyone. When we have REMF’s who are itching to hang a young GI because he fired on a terrorist who was faking dead, then it’s no wonder our troops may be “gun shy”. Can anyone imagine what it must be like for a young soldier or marine to be Courts Martialed because he may have fired too quickly? Shoot, only 8 months ago this guy’s biggest worry in life was who to take to his senior prom. We train them, put a gun in their hands, and tell them to KILL but when they come home they can’t even go out and have a beer with their dad’s.
The more we treat our soldiers like cops, the fewer soldiers we’ll have.

I almost never worry about offending people.
Recently, I had a column about how we are winning the war and thus seeing the media lose interest. Hillary and friends are now saying they can’t guarantee we’ll be out by 2013!!!!!!!!??? Anyway . . .
I’m delighted to part of “I Vote the Elephant” blogroll, as you are, and I look forward to working with everybody on the rapidly growing list to achive our common political objectives. Come pay me a visit sometime at http://camp2008victorya.blogspot.com/
