Thompson: New York Is an Atypical City

BRISTOL, N.H. (AP) – Presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said Friday that New York City isn’t a model for the rest of the country and that Rudy Giuliani should stop basing his stances on his time as that city’s mayor.

Thompson, campaigning at a New Hampshire gun store with stuffed moose and deer overhead, told reporters that Giuliani too often turns to his time as New York mayor to explain his support for stronger gun restrictions.

“He relates everything to New York City. Well, New York City is not emblematic of the rest of the country, I don’t think. I think the sentiments of those people in the rest of the country are in support of the Second Amendment – which is where I’ve always been and I don’t think he’s ever been,” Thompson said.

The former Tennessee senator and “Law & Order” actor badly trails Giuliani in New Hampshire polls, in part because Thompson has spent so little time in the state. On Friday, he planned to attend a town hall-style meeting at a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall.

Sen. Thompson hit that nail on the head, and to the folks that are always asking, “Where does Thompson stand on the issues?”, well, here ya go, is this written in plain enough English for you??

Fred Thompson has become more assertive in his opinions as this campaign has progressed, and I think he will become even more forceful and more direct in his voicing of opinions, but there are STILL folks that seek to detract from Thompson and still ask those “What’s he really going to do” questions, and to them I say, pay attention, watch, listen, keep your mouth shut and don’t be a part of the problem, ask intelligent questions and not a bunch of rhetorical what if BS that no one can answer…

Thompson is right on the money about Giuliani, he was a MAYOR, an anti-guns, pro abortion and pro homosexual marriage MAYOR for crying out loud, he isn’t a Republican, he isn’t a Conservative and FDT has his number, and he needs to exploit that issue, New York City bears no resemblance to America as a whole, NYC is totally unique in every way, the problems of NYC are not the same as the problems of Omaha or Dallas, and vice versa, Fred Thompson comes from the heart of America, real America, and it shows…

Gun rights is a key issue among libertarian-leaning primary voters in New Hampshire.

“(Giuliani) simply supported just about every gun control legislation that came down the pike. I just disagree with him on that,” Thompson said. “I saw he was at bill signing ceremonies with (New York Sen.) Chuck Schumer and President Clinton and others for gun control legislation over the years. Of course, he’s not as outspoken about it any more.”

Thompson, however, is.

“I used to have my own skeet shoot,” Thompson boasted as he wandered through the gun shop and bought his children gifts. “Some of my opponents, you know, have a bad record or no records. I have a solid record. … I’m not embarrassed to remind anybody of it.”

And this is one of MY reasons for supporting Fred Thompson, look, I don’t agree with everything he says, not 100%, and anyone that does agree 100% with their candidate is NOT a thinking person, they are a lemming, a simple minded person that has no ability to think for themselves, much like the Paulinistas, not an original thought in the bunch…

Americans don’t need a gun grabber in the White House, and that’s exactly what they will have if Giuliani wins the ’08 election, a LIBBER in a RINO suit, that’s all he is…

Folks, I’m asking ALL of you, support a real Conservative, Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo or even John McCain, and I am NOT a McCain fan, but he’s a hell of a lot better choice for America than Rudy Giuliani…

The only difference between Giuliani and the Dems is this, the Dems are honest about what they are, Giuliani isn’t, he is a pandering RINO, a Dem in disguise, a very LIBERAL Dem in disguise, don’t fall for it America, vote for a REAL Conservative…

I’m with you all the way until you semi-endorse McCain.
He’s voted and talked against my values too many times.
He’s just another RINO that the MSM loves.

If me saying that McCain is a hell of a lot better choice for America than Rudy Giuliani is seen as a semi-endorsement of McCain, you apparently know nothing of semis or endorsements… …

A pile of dog shit is more conservative than Giuliani, but I don’t endorse dog shit… :?

The people of NY State are heavily taxed to keep NY City afloat. As someone who was originally from Upstate NY, I can tell you the majority of people there would rather NY City become its own state, or anything, but not part of Upstate NY.

Based on past performance, if Rudy ran as a Democrat, he would be the front runner.

Now for the dilemma. If Rudy is the Republican candidate, do you vote for Rudy or do you vote for a third party candidate, ensuring a Hillary victory? I’m tired of voting for the lesser of two evils but Hillary is the ultimate of Evil. This is going to be a tough one to decide.
