Serr8d (nice nom-de-plume!): I would concur, we should move away from oil. Not being an energy specialist I'm not sure I know what that might be or what direction to go -- it just seems to me that the Left dislikes ANY form of energy production:

1. No nukes. Can't use the European model though it works wonderfully there; damned dangerous!
2. No solar. Takes up too much land and litters the landscape with acres of metal and glass;
3. No more refineries. You know why;
4. No drilling. Anywhere. For any reason;
5. No wind-powered. Eyesores, limiting, not enough wind due to global warming, don't belong on the tops of our pristine hills and mountains;
6. No electrical propulsion, see #1 and #2;
7. No ethanol; inefficient and takes too much land for corn;
8. No propane-fired plants; see #3 & #4;
9. No hydrogen; drips water and that releases C02;
10. No fusion; see #1;

Maybe we should simply go back to pedal cars, horses and candles? Yeah, that's the ticket!

Were never going to be free of the need for oil, at least not in our lifetimes. Unless we want to go back to living like Fred Flintstone or our scientists quickly come up with a way we can live like George Jetson, were going to need oil.

We had our chance to get to the oil in the ANWR and Gulf of Mexico but the Republicans didn't have the balls to do what it takes. Now with Democrats in control of congress, that oil will be sit there, undeveloped, for generations to come. As long as the American People are willing to open their wallets for foreign oil, the Eco-Nazi's will get their way.

Ahhh, to be free of the Oil Requirement. That's the key...and not just Saudi oil, but Chavez oil, Iraqi oil, Dubain oil, where ever it comes from.

But, But, we have to have it. Our entire economy is built on the capitalist model of required, sustained growth...not just sitting still, or conserving, but growth. Without growth, we start to lose some of the thin veneer of civilization that capitalism built. Growth is dependent on the free-flow of Oil at market prices.

Sure, we have to open up the reserves and the coastlines, but we also have to work on removing oil from sitting on top of the list in our economic structure. If we don't, then oil price increases alone are going to knock us into a depression. If a major conflict shuts down the flow of crude from the Middle East (nukes, Iran, Israel) then we're in a financial crisis unlike any this country has ever seen.

Given our current population and the state of our National Unity (!), I would say that missing a few meals will send many of the current crop of Americans into some discord. Miss meals? HA! Many can't miss cable TV without panic attacks...

I agree - Huckabee got this one right - however, as a resident of Arkansas, I have seen what his policies regarding illegal aliens (we are pretty much a sanctuary state) and his tax increases will do to know I won't vote for him. I don't think we can stand another president from Hope.
And - Gunz... I know a few guys who had some pretty mean SuperSoakers in Iraq...... :)

I like Huckabee so far, I don't know enough about him but this statement is certainly a winner in my book and he's dead on.

F-k the U.N. too, if they had it their way we'd fight this war on terror with super soakers and replace the taser with one of those hand held, battery operated, bubble makers...

First: he IS correct. This IS a petroleum-based economy -- one in which we are held HOSTAGE by our OWN Eco-Nazis, though we have our OWN resources available on CONUS and just off our shores, which we are FORBIDDEN by these assholes to tap.

Second: TAKE away the Taser, I think that's great. That's one less thing I have to think about using from my belt, and I can jump from the baton to my handgun without having to worry about what's in between on the force continuum. I say: you bet. TAKE the Taser!

I'm not behind any candidate 100% at this early time but this is the kind of stuff I want to hear a candidate say.

He's been all over the airwaves lately and I like what I'm hearing. Is he the one? I don't know but at least he's taking a stand I like.

All I know right now is that we can not, let me repeat, can not let Clinton or Obama get in.
