On the other hand, since it is a new type of sub there is a possibility that they were allowed in- so as to get a better aucoustic signature?

During the cold war almost every Soviet sub was individually identified by it's sepecific signature.

As to why it surfaced, it WAS made in China something probably broke.

Are you sure somebody didn't just order a bunch of sweet-n-sour soup and egg rolls and the Sub was just delivering'?

I'm just glad they didn't order up a bunch of Russian Borsch.

This actually happened over six months ago, perhaps even late last year. The story you saw was just a reprisal or update.

Submarine propellers are designed nowadays to avoid cavitation at certain speeds. Detection of submarines is actually accomplished mostly by analyzing the sounds of auxiallary machinery on board such as reduction gears, pumps, generators, etc.

Once again I'll say it. CHINA IS THE NUMBER ONE GOD DAMNED THREAT TO THE US AND THE REST OF THE WORLD...MAINLY US. 75% of their money currently is going directly to ARMING THEMSELVES....and hello dipshits....they are arming themsleves against US DIRECTLY! Let alone the subveting and undercutting of our economy, trade, international affairs, military etc etc on and on. We should have blown the god damned sub up! Made a big yellow puddle in the middle of the ocean for a few hours.

As for the Debate last night
McCain simply proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he is the ONLY candidate we should consider for the next President of the United States. He proved , that if you have not realized that as of yet ( and if you haven't, well, I can't take it anymore...yer a dipshit!) That you need to listen to him before you make up your mind. The Spitting Mayor, The Masshole Liar, Deputy Dog, Run-away Paul, proved they're . . . well, lets stick with what we know . . . dipshits! Duncan Hunter and Huckabee secured our faith in their support for McCain, and I imagine they will outwardly endorse him shortly. BTW Huckabee is a great guy. Tancredo...well...same as always. Funny lil bastard isn't he?

Since the demise of the Soviet Union, there isn’t anybody to really challenge us militarily on a global scale and I think we’ve started slacking in many areas. I’ve read where the Russians are also penetrating our defenses on sea and in the air.

During the Cold War we were always looking for the "Boogie Man" and I think maybe we need to go back to that. With China building and modernizing its armed forces and Putin longing for the days of the mighty USSR, we need to get back up to speed again.

I missed this story, entirely, as well. I knew that our Air Force had gone to hell in a handbag, but I did not realize the Navy was hot on it's heels.

Methinks this is caused by the lack of military men (former Military men) in our Congress and the office of the President and thru-out his administration. A top knotch military cannot be static. It must ALWAYS be growing, and improvng, and training, etc. Appaprently, except for the ground forces, our military is simply rusting away!

And Fred, you're right about the cavitations of the screws on those subs... UNLESS this was a brand new boat and we had no signature for it yet. But our sonar should have been able to identify a sub of THAT class in the vacinity, anyway. Who the heck knows! But somebody had damn well better find out!

Our Navy must of not took it too seriously, I was looking at the post I did and this incident happened a few weeks prior to the incident where the Kitty Hawk was denied to come into Hong Kong and there were family members that flew there to meet up with the sailors. Plus the Chinese denied a few other US Navy ships safe harbor during some very bad weather conditions just days earlier...

Why on Earth did the Navy go ahead and want to try to pull into Chinese waters after this?? Where the Chinese navy is home based?

That was a Hell of a wake up call, that happened on the 10th and 2 weeks later we're trying to dock in Hong Kong? And the State Dept didn't advise family members against traveling there because of this over aggressive move by the Chinese?

We got set up 3 times by those chinks within a month.
