Techy Stuff, things some folks need to know…
December 6th, 2007 . by TexasFredYesterday myself and a few other bloggers I know of were locked out of our WordPress blogs for awhile. When I attempted several logins 403 errors kept occurring, denying me access into my own blog. I initially had no clue what the heck was going on or what to do about it.
The problem was my
Bad Behavior ’spam killer’ plugin that I use, and after deleting it’s files from the server, I was able to gain access to my blog once again. There is an updated release out for Bad Behavior that fixes this problem, and if you would like to continue running this plugin then you’re going to have to download this version to avoid any further headaches and hair pulling error messages. Here’s what the Bad Behavior blog had to say about it:
All users should update to Bad Behavior 2.0.11 immediately to prevent being blocked from your own site.
Within the past two days users have found themselves blocked from their own sites while using recent versions of Bad Behavior. A third party blacklist which Bad Behavior queries recently began sending false positives for any IP address queried, causing everyone using Bad Behavior to be blocked. This issue is fixed in Bad Behavior 2.0.11.
This was posted at Long Live the Republic and is re-posted here for all to see, it was a network wide outage caused by Bad Behavior, if you are on a WordPress blogging platform and a paid server, and if you’re using Bad Behavior, update immediately…

And folks think all Marines can do is drink beer and break things…

Kudos for figuring it out! Technology’s great —- when it works!
Simple old stupid Blogger is looking better every day. And it’s still free for me. Amazing.
BZ
BZ, I have had serious thought of NOT renewing my server space and going back to Blogger but for the few boo-boo’s we DO have, it’s worth it for the freedom, it was a Plug-in, not WordPress itself, it was an accessory… Written FOR WordPress…
As Fred knows, We’ve been toiling with the idea of going to Blogger when our server space comes up for renewal. I have the choice with Dotster of WordPress or Serendipity.
Was warned long ago that Blogger was notorious for blocking or deleting certain sites that were not exactly politically correct in nature (I think I would fall into that catagory – Long live Glenn Beck and Jerome Corsi)
So… here I sit – have a few months to mull over it. Pay for freedom of content or take a chance……..
