Thanks for posting the link Renado! Okay, as far as Tom's positions on gun control. Gun Owners of America has the best, IMO, round up of all of the candidates.
As Fred, and a few others are aware, I am a hard core Tancredo supporter, and the links mentioned will give sufficient background for why I am that way. Perhaps though, the biggest reasons are from personal contact with him, and his campaign.
He had one single weak moment on the gun issue, to the best of my knowlege, and that was very short lived. It was immediatly after the Columbine High School atrocity. That happened in his district, about a mile from his house. What set him straight about that, in rather short order I might add? The outlandish comments made by John McCain, that's what.
I asked him about that, as well as a few other things at a fund raiser at Cool River Café. I liked what I heard. Tom is, if nothing else, a straight shooter. He is honest to a fault, and that is why I don't believe that he has a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected President.
Specifics;
More laws would not have stopped Columbine, at least eighteen laws were broken as it was.
Ex Post Facto Laws are immoral.
The taking of civil liberties for less than felony conviction, or serious mental disability is immoral.
Border security is not a racial issue, it is a national security issue.
All of our military forces need to be beefed up, including the Coast Guard.
Tax reform is a priority, he seemed to lean toward the FAIR Tax initiative, but is open to other ideas.
Health care is a private matter, not one that government should be involved with. (Look at the VA system for a snap shot of Hillary care; my comment :) )

That is what I most remember from actually meeting the man.

I am sad to admit that my ardor for Thompson has declined in proportion to his desire for the job. I could, admittedly, go most anywhere at this point. I thought by now I'd have my mind nailed but I do not. I concur, Tancredo's immigration stand is beyond reproach, but logic has little if anything to do with electability these days. There are just too many ancillary issues. You get with touch with Tom, I want to know:

FIRST of all: what is his stand on SCOTUS appointments? This, quite frankly, is my BIGGEST issue (and should be ALL of ours) because it's one the POTUS can actually influence.

SECOND: what kind of Communicator is he? The Presidency is, obviously, the world's largest Bully Pulpit. If Tancredo can't or won't advocate for Conservatism -- this is one of Bush's LARGEST failures. He either can't or won't stay focused on issue and admirably and logically continuously COMMUNICATE to the public not only the Conservative stance but the stance of his administration. He's got to be a Conservative First.

THIRD: WILL be follow the basic tenets of Conservatism or will he allow the GOP platform to wander?

FOURTH: Backbone. Will he stand UP for Conservatism? Will he fold under Demorat pressure? Public pressure? Does he stick his finger up into the Prevailing Political Prairie Winds and measure the gust? Is he a Poll-adherant?

FIFTH: Sovereignty. Will he keep us sovereign and safe? Will he be answerable only to The People of the United States, NOT to the United Nations, NOT to a World Court, NOT to treaties or protocols NOT benevolent to the United States of America?

SIXTH: Smaller government, less government spending? Will he ever meet a bill he'd veto? Would he advocate line-item veto? Tax reform? Reduced spending? Pushing budgets and responsibilities back down to the state level? Fewer dollars to Washington? TORT REFORM? TRUTH in Bills?

We already know his stance on immigration. Moreover: is he or can be be MORE than a One Trick Pony?

Hey Fred (TexasFred),

It doesn't take much to figure out that Fred Thompson has already failed. His campaign isn't near organized enough and he does seem to be lacking something....like the drive it takes to get there....and taking hard stands...I have for some weeks figured that he wasn't going to make....I am sure of it....as for Tancredo...he is going to need a lot of publicity...all you see in the news is Clinton and Guiliani....they are getting the press and working it and like it or not the press goes a long way...

Put INSIGHT on Freedom on that Tancredo blogroll, Fred.

Believe me, I KNOW how hard a decision to drop support for Thompson was. I want re- my reasons for jumping ship when I did, but it was at that point that I realized there was some serious back-filling going on that I did not like.

By the way, I, too, wouldd like to know Tancredo's stand on gun control, etc.

Regards to all!

Tancredo has the best stand on Illegals stealing across our borders but from what I understand he's had a weak stand on gun rights. I'll have to look more into it because basically he's a strong conservative. Hunter is good and his military background appeals to me. I still like Thompson and feel he's better than the top GOP runners but, like you mentioned, he doesn't seem to have the fire in his belly for being president. It's going to be an interesting upcoming year.

Pat, that's fine, you do your thing and I'll do mine but make NO assumptions regarding me, and my whys and wherefores...

This has NOTHING to do with polls and rankings, if that was the case why in the hell would I support Tancredo??

It has EVERYTHING to do with Thompson showing up at and taking part in the Wetback Debates...

Tancredo is the only one that didn't pander to the Spanish speakers, screw em ALL, Thompson included...

You do whatever the hell turns your crank, IN YOUR BLOG, if you have one, I am all for it, but I will do MY thing here, freedom of speech is a bitch huh??
