Tancredo to Abandon Presidential Bid

December 19th, 2007 . by TexasFred

DENVER (AP) – Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, whose forceful opposition to illegal immigration vaulted him to national prominence, plans to announce he is abandoning his long-shot bid for the presidency, a person close to Tancredo said Wednesday.

The five-term Colorado congressman planned to make the announcement at a news conference in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak for Tancredo or his campaign.

Tancredo’s campaign would only say he planned a “major announcement” Thursday.

Tancredo has consistently polled at the back of the nine-person GOP field. He has based his campaign on opposition to illegal immigration, a top issue in many areas of the country. He has run television ads that link lax border security to terrorist attacks, rape and other crimes.

Tancredo announced in October that he would not seek a sixth term in Congress, but hinted he would consider running for the Senate after his presidential bid.

Tancredo to Abandon Presidential Bid

The only presidential candidate with BALLS is dropping out…

The Democratic field gets bigger every day, if you count all the RINOs that are running that is, this is a sad day for America, but I will continue to believe that Tom Tancredo is still the best of the bunch, I never thought he was electable, not really, but that’s because he really is the BEST of the bunch and it’s been a long time since anyone was elected to the White House that was GOOD for America…

And I know some will say it’s a waste of a vote, and it may well be, but I WILL write in Tom Tancredo in ‘08, I refuse to ever vote for the lesser of 2 evils again…

It’s a big disappointment that Tancredo droped out, I agree. I think we should just relax and see how the next few months play out.

I’m still hoping that Thompson steps up to the plate and becomes a candidate that we may, let me repeat, may be able to get behind.

I want to hear a candidate say, “I will unlease Holy Hell on anyone trying to invade or undo America.”

Let’s hope this will happen, if not we’re Fucked.

Well I can’t say I blame him, the media has painted him a racist, and he had little support from the internet (like Ron Paul)
It’s a damn shame too, he was surely the best of the bunch when it came to the border.

It will be interesting to see who he endorses on his way out.

I am very disappointed. We finally find someone who can be the president that this country needs and he gets squeezed out of the race.

What a horribly sad day for America.

I will write Tom in. Like Fred, I refuse to be forced into another lesser of two evils again.

Maybe we could all stage a “Draft Tancredo” campaign to write him in across the country.

I just wrote an email to Team Tamcredo asking them to STAY IN THE RACE and congratulating them for boycotting the Univision debate in spanish. I am puzzled, who was supposed to be the audience of this debate? probably illegals, since voters are supposed to be citizens with proficiency in English…
America is going the wrong way (towards Mexico) Tom was best to fix this, RP can be good but not as good

He wasn’t trying to win anyway, his purpose was to get illegal immigration into the debates. I think he did that very well.

What? Not voting? Then you can’t complain. If you don’t vote, you might as well accept Hillary as your next president.

Al, are you an illiterate IDIOT?? No one said they won’t vote, they said they would do a ‘write in’, that is a vote, and here’s a bit of advice, once more with a comment that stupid and you won’t be commenting here again… Is THAT clear enough for you??
